We are ALL temporary custodians. That's why I prefer to shoot mine. The guy your widow (or estate auctioneer) sells them to isn't really gonna give a rat's ass whether you shot 'em or not. You won't see the money anyway.
Life is short. Shoot your guns and have fun! )lI

One and half year later here is what I got in my little collection.
Left top down: 1848 2nd model Dragoon, 1851 Navy, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army 44, 1861 Navy Civilian,1862 Police.
Right top down: Dance .44, Leach & Rigdon, Griswold & Gunnison, Spiller & Burr.
Ten is a nice round number.
The End ...........maybe  ::)

I disagree. Ten is what I would call "a good start".

Hi Hewy, nice collection. BTW, did you ever get to shoot your new Pietta 1858? You never gave us a report on the condition of the 1860 as received. Inquiring minds need to know.  L@J L@J

I disagree. Ten is what I would call "a good start".

What I tried to acomplish was and I think I did, is to have a variety that represents models from early to late production , as well as the Confederate copies of those that were made to help the South in their fight.
Given some restriction on me , mainly $, so availability of reproductions is important.
I would love to have a Whitney for example, where are reproductions ?  Therefore the Spiller & Burr will do.

I'm kinda like Hawg....an accumulator. If I was a true collector I would concentrate on one maker, or model, etc.   As it is I have an eclectic accumulation! Guns range from cannons, matchlocks, flintlocks, pistols, rifles, smooth bores, BP revolvers, on up through single shot rifles and into a few modern guns.

Well I blew my even numbered collection all to hell. As some know I got a beautiful Uberti 1849 .31
Pocket Pistol.
Realizing, like a dog you got to feed these critters. Took inventory of caps ball and black powder.
Only have one pound Goex and two Pyrodex .Caps good , bullets ok I cast my own.
So no more buying shooters , got to get a little more Black Powder. Hello.... Grafs ? please send some Goex 3f
on next stage West.......Thanks Hewy.
