Kibler Kit
« on: December 04, 2023, 07:09:28 AM »
I've been saving what money I could for a few months and I finally dropped the hammer on a Kibler Woodsrunner kit and they're shipping it today. .54 caliber in a plain maple stock. I just hope I don't screw it up.

And expensive for something I have the potential to screw up. I've only ever spent that much on a gun that somebody else built for me.

I looked them up too and subscribed to their newsletter.  Better late than never.

You won’t mess up, Hawg - you got this.
Congrats are in order.  Good score.

It'll be a good challenge.   It looks like a nice kit and will be a nice rifle when you finish it.   Take the time needed to do the best job you possibly can.   It may not be perfect but it will be yours,  done with your own hands.

I hope so. I'd hate to think I wasted all that money on a tomato stake and a bunch of irregular toothpicks. (7+" I'm going to be stretched thin for the rest of the month so about all I'll be able to do is look at it. I'm not using 40 year old files on it. I don't even have decent sandpaper. What I've been using on the horn is too coarse.

Just a suggestion, but there are plenty of Kibler build vids on YT and a few from Jim himself that are pretty detailed. I'd spend some time watching every one I could find before making my first pass with a file.

I've watched them all over the last couple of months and I'll be watching them again.

Can't wait to see your rifle when you're finish Hawg. Flintlocks are a lot of fun.
My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

Hello Hawg,

All I can tell you is to take your time putting it together, don't rush.
I built a CVA Kentucky years ago and it turned out very nice,
unfortunately I traded it for a CVA Big Bore Mountain Rifle in .58 cal.
I also put together a CVA Pioneer Pistol.
If I can do it anyone can.

I built a CVA Colonial pistol back in the 70's. It looked like a 12 year old kid did it.
