R92 .45 Colt
« on: January 03, 2024, 06:02:17 PM »
Got the Rossi out to the range.  Been trying to see how it likes cast.  The Lee 255 RNFP seated to the crimp groove in .45 Colt cases fed 100%.  I thought accuracy was just fine considering the crude sights and just elbows on the table.
Ran 65 rounds through it.  Did get a smidge of leading so may try a little harder alloy or see  if .454 will chamber.

Are you using soft lead or hard cast?
Midway sells various alloys by the ingot from Rotometals. I have been buying pre-cast hardcast bullets from them for my .45LC handloads. They work well with no excess leading.
Nice looking Rossi, BTW!

What's your muzzle velocity? Soft lead is good up to around 1000 FPS. Much more than that and it starts to strip through the rifling. Hard lead will lead up a barrel if you run it too slow.

These were clip on wheel weights.  Nothing added and just air cooled.

The clip on weights should be good to go. What about bullet lube? Grease grooves?

The lube grooves on the Lee are pretty shallow.  These were some rejects, but you get the idea.

Not enough lube is probably your problem.
