Beaded sheath
« on: May 12, 2024, 04:45:14 AM »
I've been looking for accessories to go with my flintlock and came across this beaded neck knife sheath at a reasonable price. It beats the hell out of the homemade sheath I've been using. The knife is the first one I ever made and didn't really know what I was doing but it's a great patch knife. I made it out of a circle saw blade a long time ago. That's not rust on the blade it's some kind of stain. It will come off. Not that rust bothers me. Most of the knives I've rehafted have been rusty relics. Now that I have this snazzy sheath I may cut it down and add a poured pewter butt cap.

A beaded sheath is a great accessory for a flintlock. That one looks nice. Good find.

Did you get that sheath from a girl named Cheyenne Tremblay?
She does some pretty good stuff at reasonable prices.

Crazy Crow is a good place too.   I used to get catalogs from them but they may have quit.   Everything is online now.  I haven't bought anything there for years so they may have dropped me from the list.

Some of their stuff is good, some of it's crap. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

A little late on my response, but I just saw this. I have the same one from Crazy Crow(design is slightly different) and I wear it at times at Cowboy shoots. It definitely gets used and I receive compliments about it. Glad you like yours Hawg.

It's never too late to said sumfin. Every response helps keep the forum going. This is the sixth day since anybody has said anything. I use mine too but not as much as I'd like. I still haven't poured the pewter butt cap. I just have too many projects and never do much with any or them.

Yeah, exactly. I don't post a lot. I'm better at responding but when I do start a thread I try to post stuff that will get a conversation going. My rolling block thread got 17 responses but 323 views. This thread got 11 responses but 2,638 views. Most of them are probably bots but I know a lot of them are real live people that for whatever reason refuse to post anything.

Hello Hawg,

I remember from a demonstration about bead work, the speaker stated that each color has a meaning.
He had my friend so upset that he went and brought him his rifle case, which was a beautifully beaded case that was a copy from an original.
His case was beaded on both sides with a pattern much like yours.
The speaker claimed it was from Reservation days, he took the case and laid it out showing the top.
The RED design was surrounded by BLUE, and he claimed it meant the Indians were surrounded by the white man in peace.
I might be a little fuzzy about this, as it was over 45 years ago but that is the first thing I noticed when I looked at your sheath.

Now I remember, the Speaker said that you would never see BLUE on a weapon.
Blue meant peace, then he explained the RED surrounded by BLUE, a forced peace.
