Screwless (action) Frame !!?
« on: September 17, 2024, 07:43:30 PM »
Here's something not talked about but it's my "rendition " of what is called a "Screwless Frame".
The screws are replaced with oversized pins that produce a more mechanically accurate action .  .  .  usually removing any need for "shims" (hammer/trigger).  This setup also allows for easier/faster disassembly  / reassembly as the pins just simply slide in or out.  And !!! No more buggered screw slots!!!

Interesting Mike. Do you just use a suitable punch to extract? Friction fit or?

Does that work on all BP revolvers or just Colts?

My Schofield has pins with no threads or heads on them.  Just pushed in and held in place by tension on the pin from the springs.   They stay in place but it doesn't take a hammer and drift to remove them.  Just some hand pressure with a brass punch.

Since the threaded screws have threads larger than the pin portion, do you sleeve the frame to fill the extra space? I'd think simply drilling the frame might require a rather large pin unless you make a stepped pin that only goes in from the one side.

Thanks for the questions guys!  The head of the "action pins" is the "stop" as far as insertion. Since the threaded section of the pin is next to the head, it doesn't matter because the small end is a "pin" anyway.  The hammer screw on the next one ( another one of mine) may have the frame threads removed to explore a better "keeper" for that pin. The section that supports the hammer is fitted to a closer tolerance to give a more accurate travel. Hope that sheds more light on the subject.

Thanks, Mike. That makes it pretty clear.
