Winchester model 63
« on: October 16, 2024, 07:18:15 PM »
I picked this up a few months ago. A Winchester model 63 .22 semi auto. I had trouble seeing the sights so I tried a Skinner barrel mounted peep. I didn't want to D&T it and if I did D&T for a tang mounted sight the tang is so short I'd have to take the sight odd just to take it down.

The receiver had some bluing loss.

So I cold blued it. It's not great but it's less noticeable.

The other side was pretty good.

The Skinner peep.

This isn't the magazine. it operates the bolt. You should have seen Talon trying to work the bolt with the takedown knob. (7+"

It loads through the butt.

I don't know if I've actually seen one in person. I had saved up a little money and went to the LGS with nothing really in mind. I looked at everything they had which took awhile but didn't see anything that screamed take me home. At least nothing I wanted to pay for. Not even if I put it on layaway. I asked the dude if they had anything in the back they hadn't put out yet and he said we've got a few. He brought two out. A Marlin 336 and this one. I looked it over and liked it but I figured it was going to be more than I wanted to spend. When I asked the price he had to take it to the manager and she looked it over with a fine toothed comb. When she told me the price I said sold.

I don't know. I didn't even look at it. I'm sure it's gone by now anyway. They have a thriving business.

Nice find Hawg. Love those old Winchester 22's. Fun and cheap to shoot. I use a Skinner peep on my Big Boy and really like it. Definitely gives these old eyes and edge.

Yeah, they're expensive tho. Mine makes it shoot a little high but better too high than too low. Most of my rifles don't give me any trouble. Some I have to have my glasses and some I don't. When I swap sights I usually go to full buckhorns but thought I'd give these a try. I have problems with my flintlock. I filed out the notch on the last sight and it helped but it shot too low. Jim sells taller sights for them and I got one nut haven't filed it out yet. I would have gone with something else but I couldn't find anything with a 3/4" dovetail.

Yeah.....he's got a great selection for sure. I felt it was a quality product and wouldn't hesitate buying from hm again if needed.
