You will indeed blow right through a bale of straw. Besides, hay or straw does unspeakable things to both feather fletchings and vanes. Pop for a good 'block'. Sure, it will cost upside of a Benjamin but it's worth it in the long run. G, I gots me a whole passel of them stick-thingies, some near as old as I am. No aversion to wheels and cams, just prefer Old Skool myself. Seems to be a common theme on fora like these for some reason...I dunno?

I grew up with fiberglass recurves. My last recurve was a laminated bow with a 65 lb pull.  I had a couple of compound bows too. After I wrecked my shoulder that did it for bows for me. I never hunted with a bow. I just liked shooting stuff. I still have trouble with my shoulder when I overwork it so I just know I'm going to have to get a crank for it if I'm going to shoot it any at all. I ordered some 100 grain field points. I wanted bodkin points but all I could find were 12 packs with 4 different weights. If they had all been the same weight I'd have gotten them no matter the weight.

Same here; I like having and shooting bows but can't work up the interest to hunt with them. I grew up with a long bow and that's what I prefer, but I have a couple recurves too.
I was given a compound bow and passed it along to a new owner. I figure if I learn how to shoot a compound I'll forget how to shoot a longbow. Not that I'm any good at that either!  :cowboypistol:

Here in northeast IL, all that's allowed is bowhunting in my county and a few of the surrounding ones. So I've kinda taken a shine to it. And yes, I hunt with my recurve bare bows. It's not nearly as easy gun hunting, but I enjoy it. Make my own arrows and everything. And most of my recurves are somewhat collectible, so that's kinda fun.

I get it, and I can see how it would be fun. I like my longbows and recurves too, and making your own arrows sounds like a great thing to do. I'm just more into guns when it comes to deer and hog hunting, and I cast my own bullets for that. Sometimes make my own black powder and percussion caps, too.
I would like to try bowfishing, though.

I tried bow fishing back in the 70's. I never had much luck with it but the only fish you can legally take with a bow here aren't fit to eat. Carp, grinnel, gar etc. Equipment has undoubtedly improved since then.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way it is here, too. I've heard that you can cook a carp on a wooden plank. Bake it until you can flake the meat with a fork, then throw away the carp and eat the plank! :talk040:

:lol-049: :lol-049: :lol-049: Black folks eat them down here. One white guy I talked to said he tried carp once and it was ok hot but was nasty once it cooled.
