As requested by "StrawHat", Stainless Walker thread.

As requested by StrawHat....
Yes it is a Stainless Steel Walker, an Uberti one.
Bought this gun first before all the other pistols, wanted one of these for a while now so this was my first purchase.
Most accurate with 19 - 21 grains of Goex FFF, cracked wheat or ground Semolina filler and a .457 ball, quite capable of 3.5" group at 25yards.
It's damn heavy at 4.5lbs but always draws a crowd when it comes out at the pistol club.
Have put 55grains in each chamber and the noise and muzzle flash had to be experienced to be believed, this gun makes a much deeper boom than any other C&B I've ever shot.
It is accurate with 19-21 and quite accurate with 55 but in between those weights it shoots all over the place.
Even at 55gr there was no recoil to speak of.
Everybody should own one of these.
Hope you like it.

Cheers
Gaz

Hi Gaz,   Yours is the only SS Walker I have seen.  I know I have never handled one in person and don't recall even seeing a photo before.  Sometimes we don't have exactly the same models available in the States that are for sale overseas.  This might be one of those cases.  Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.  A while back I was hearing that steel frame 1858 Buffalo revolvers were available in Europe but not in the U.S.  That proved to be wrong.

SS or not I find the same result with my Walker,  though I have not reduced the loads to the extent you have.  If I drop down below 45 grains the thing hits everywhere except where you aim.  With 45 or 50 grains it shoots 31/2 inch groups at 25 yards if you can hold it steady long enough.

Sweet! I haven't seen a SS Walker either.
Just goes to prove, just 'cuz you never saw one, doesn't mean they don't exist!

Thank you!  I have not seen one either and thought you might have just polished a blued one.  Glad to hear it is stainless.  Fingers may enjoy seeing this.  Not sure if he has a pair of these or not.

I wish.  I was not aware that SS Walkers existed.  What is the date code on this one?

...Date code? Where would I find that?...

It is often found as a group of letters or numbers on the frame of the revolver, as seen on this Uberti 1861

Often a pair of letters in a box in the same location.  Sometimes a boxed pair of numbers on the frame in front of the trigger guard.  I do not have photos to show of the last two, but I am sure you get the idea.

The only thing stamped there on the frame is "CL, inside a square", the Serial number and what I think are proof marks underneath stamped just forward of the trigger guard.

Trawled about and found these after realizing that the [CL] in the square was the date code.... : -

Might be useful to a few people.

Year   =   code
1945   =   1          1952  =  8           1959  =  XV
1946   =   2          1953  =  9           1960  =  XVI
1947   =   3          1954  =  X           1961  =  XVII
1948   =   4          1955  =  XI          1962  =  XVIII
1949   =   5          1956  =  XII         1963  =  XIX
1950   =   6          1957  =  XIII        1964  =  XX
1951   =   7          1958  =  XIV         1965  =  XXI
-----------------------------------------------------------------

1966   =   XXII      1973  =  XX9       1980  =  AF
1967   =   XXIII     1974  =  XXX       1981  =  AH
1968   =   XXIV      1975  =  AA        1982  =  AI
1969   =   XXV       1976  =  AB        1983  =  AL
1970   =   XXVI      1977  =  AC        1984  =  AM
1971   =   XX7       1978  =  AD        1985  =  AN
1972   =   XX8       1979  =  AE        1986  =  AP
--------------------------------------------------------------

1987   =   AS        1995 =  BF          2003  =  BT
1988   =   AT       1996  =  BH         2004  =  BU
1989   =   AU       1997  =  BI          2005  =  BZ
1990   =   AZ       1998  =  BL          2006  =  CA
1991   =   BA       1999  =  BM        2007  =  CB
1992   =   BB       2000  =  BN         2008   =  CC
1993   =   BC       2001  =  BP          2009   =  CD
1994  =  BD         2002  =  BS          2010  =  CF
--------------------------------------------------------------

not sure about 2011 onwards, the only number set I've seen didn't make much sense.
Here it is anyway : -
2010 = CE
2011 = CH
2011 = CF
2012 = CI
2012 = CH
2013 = CL
2013 = CI
2014 = CL

Cheers

 While I was posting this Gaz beat me to the punch with the date codes.

"CL is 2013-2014.  looks like they are spanning years with date codes now."

I think the last ones were a misprint in a book....

Assuming the (2011 to 2014) is wrong then going by the previous codes : -
CH would be 2011
CI would be 2012
CL would be 2013
CM would be 2014

My Evil Roy does have [CM] stamped on it?

I believe that this is the year it was proofed in Italy, so it may well work for other Italian made guns... but don't quote me on that.

Might be useful to someone.

Cheers

I was not aware of a stainless model Walker either.  And the date code just ahead of the trigger guard just might be exclusive to Uberti? It took me a while to find the date on my Uberti Walker as I was looking for it on the side of the frame. It is faintly stamped and I wasn't expecting it there.
