Hi Captain, notice that Mike had cap sucking from his revolver modified to reduce cap sucking?

If you want reliability with cap and ball, use a Remington 1858 or conversion cylinder with the Colt.  ($! ($!

Richard

Richard,  not sure what method MB used in his revolver (I did not watch the video) but a cap rake or cap pin prevents the problem.  And proper fitting caps help reduce it also.

Hi StrawHat, since I use conversion cylinders with my Colts those modifications aren't useful to me.

Richard

I don't use conversions or any mods and I don't have many cap jams. I do get the occasional cap pulled off the hammer but they are few and usually far between.

To be honest, my Colts are fairly regular "capsuckers". (Can I say that on this forum??!!! (jh

But like must of you, I've learned to be aware of it, do the "Colt Rattle" and watch for signs of trouble. Very seldom do I get enough problems that I have to switch to another gun, (See below link)

http://blackpowdersmoke.com/colt/index.php/topic,197.0.html

but there's always a couple spares waiting in the wings for such an occasion.
I've heard good things about the "cap rake". That's one of the mods .45 Dragoon is supposed to do when he "goonerizes" my Army some time next month.
