StrawHat,   looks like you might be liking the 1911 models a little better now-a-days.  I'm still on the fence with mine but last time I shot it I was beginning to come around.   That Dan Wesson model looks very nice.  Hope it shoots as nice as it looks.

I have about 400 rounds through the Government Model and am beginning to get the hang of it.  Picking up brass is a pain but, for it's intended use, I will probably not be policing my brass.  This DW is the CCO model, a Commander slide and 4 1/4" barrel on the Officers frame.  A bit more compact than the GM.  Actually, it is only a little longer then the S&W M3913 I used to carry under my Uniform shirt on the straps of my vest.  If I had known then that the Commander was nearly the same size, I would have opted for the 45.

I will not get this one to the range for a while, possibly late fall.  Enough time to get leather and etc. for it.

I have the Rock Island compact in 45 ACP if we were allowed to get a CCW easy this would be my carry, when we are out camping some of the area's while nice are close to border or out in the boonies, I do carry and usually its my Browning HP, don't have enough rounds threw the RI yet to carry it.

Frick a damn bumper pad! I tossed the mag my RIA came with because the damn bumper cant be permanently removed.

The frame is a lightweight alloy, forged aluminum.  According to the DW site, the weight is 1.6 pounds empty.  I have the original grips and will put them on for the time being.  I am considering getting either stag, bone or ivory for the next set.

Just the little I know about 1911s, this feels a lot smaller than the Series 80 GM I have.  Visually, not a lot smaller but in the hand - much smaller.  Actually about the same size as the 3913.

There ain't a gun on the planet I don't like. The DW's had their place & time, just never rang my bells. Doesn't mean they're not nice guns, though....even if they're NOT Colts!
