Hello all,

Checking in to let you all know I am not a spammer or bot, I am a real live black powder shooter. I shoot in Black Powder matches every month and am  a member of The Treaty Oaks Long Rifles club. I own 4 BP rifles, one musket and 8 BP handguns. I've been shooting BP since 1978. BTW, I believe it to be a sacrilege to use a "substitute" for real Black Powder!  ;)

Welcome Sparky, and I agree with ya about the Holy Black. I use nothing but, but then there are those poor unfortunate ones who have difficulty getting the REAL stuff, and must use the (shudder) substitutes. I feel so sorry for them but let's not condemn them just because of their misfortune. (Mostly said with tongue firmly planted in cheek, ceptin' that part about usin' the Holy Black meself)   :D

Welcome from Colorado.   I prefer Black powder myself but I'm not above messin with some subs once in awhile.

Hello Joe,

 I am a fan of the holy black as well. I just like mine stuffed in a neat little brass case, well for revolvers any ways. For long arms using loose powder gives me a reason to carry a cool powder horn. As for Subs I find that they don't work as well in filnters, so I don't have a use for them but others might..

Welcome! Glad to know you're a real live one. Sorry to say, but I'm one of those lost boys forced to shoot Pyrodex most if the time. Ya shoots what ya can gets.

I live in Jacksonville.
I can understand using substitute BP if it's all you can get. One of the benefits of belonging to a club is that the club orders all the powder we members care to buy (and various brands to boot). My favorite being Swiss, because it burns much cleaner than most I've tried.

Sparky, if I could get the real thing, consistently, I would. One of the problems with "mix 'n match" powders is that when you shoot, you develop loads you know will work at X-distance with Y grains of Z powder, etc...and as in metallic cartridge reloading, when you start playing the shell game, things aren't where you think they are.
I can get Pyrodex all the time, and I know how it's gonna shoot.

Welcome Joe! You wouldn't be in the electrical trade would you? I am a retired electrician and also shoot the "real stuff", although I do have 2-3 pounds of the "other stuff" as a back-up ( have had one pound of Pyrodex for over 30 years now!).
