I tried bow fishing back in the 70's. I never had much luck with it but the only fish you can legally take with a bow here aren't fit to eat. Carp, grinnel, gar etc. Equipment has undoubtedly improved since then.
Yeah, that's pretty much the way it is here, too. I've heard that you can cook a carp on a wooden plank. Bake it until you can flake the meat with a fork, then throw away the carp and eat the plank! :talk040:

Same here; I like having and shooting bows but can't work up the interest to hunt with them. I grew up with a long bow and that's what I prefer, but I have a couple recurves too.
I was given a compound bow and passed it along to a new owner. I figure if I learn how to shoot a compound I'll forget how to shoot a longbow. Not that I'm any good at that either!  :cowboypistol:

Here in northeast IL, all that's allowed is bowhunting in my county and a few of the surrounding ones. So I've kinda taken a shine to it. And yes, I hunt with my recurve bare bows. It's not nearly as easy gun hunting, but I enjoy it. Make my own arrows and everything. And most of my recurves are somewhat collectible, so that's kinda fun.
I get it, and I can see how it would be fun. I like my longbows and recurves too, and making your own arrows sounds like a great thing to do. I'm just more into guns when it comes to deer and hog hunting, and I cast my own bullets for that. Sometimes make my own black powder and percussion caps, too.
I would like to try bowfishing, though.

Nice WECSOG. I'm sure it will be fun for you. Always nice to get a new/old gun. I have 2 but just sold my Replica Arms ASM Model 2. Funny thing about it is the wedge inserts like a Walker meaning it slides in on the right side LOL. It's a beautiful gun made in 1968. My other is a CVA ASM Model 3. I almost regret selling it but I have another gun in mind. When you get it please hang a picture here for us to enjoy.
Will do, Zulch! Those are some pretty sixguns ya' got there.

I have 2 2nd models and a 1st. I love 'em both! Enjoy your new toy. Do pay attention to the loading lever sliding latch as most stock ones will drop it a la Walker with 45 grains or more unless you increase the catch angle.
I'll definitely look at that, Cap'n. Thanks for the heads up!

Walkers & Dragoons / Re: Getting a Dragoon!

Good to know, Mike. Fast twist is a good thing because I would like to shoot some heavy conicals in it.
Fixing the arbor shouldn't be too difficult. I'll just try different thicknesses to find what it needs, then probably put a drop of bearing retainer in the hole before dropping the shim in place and reassembling.

Thanks! I thought the older ones were better. My Uberti '62 Police sure is a sweetheart, and I think it was made in the '70s.
Either way I intend to check if the arbor needs shimming, and take care of that post haste if so.

So it looks like I'm going to be getting a Uberti Dragoon. I think it's a 2nd model. Used, but I don't know how old it is.

I heard that the trucks rolled up at 1 AM as expected in all the key cities in the swing states. But this time they couldn't follow through because there were a bunch of people with cameras, just waiting for them.

A lot of states have relaxed their laws against switchblades. Tennessee for example changed their law a few years ago to allow them, but I remember when it was a felony to even possess one in TN.
They've always been 100 percent legal in my home state of Alabama.

Nice Official Police. One of my favorite Colt revolvers. I have a 1944 OP with the checkered walnut grips. Also have a Police Positive Special made in the '20s, 1923 iirc.
Used to have an Army Special, made in 1914 iirc but I let that one get away.

I'm a big fan of K-frame .38 Specials. Last one I bought was one of the round butt 10-7 snubbies J&G was selling with no barrel for about $150 awhile back. Actually I bought 2 of them. One I returned to snubbie configuration with a $100+ 2" factory barrel; the other I replaced the ejector rod with the longer one and put a $15 barrel on. This was a pre-model number (WWII era) barrel that was originally 5" but had been cut to 4". I cut it further to 3" and put a sight on it. It's ugly but it sure shoots good!

Have you looked on Google Maps? I just looked and saw quite a few in the area, that might be worth checking out.
It's pretty difficult to find the kind of gun shop I really like, though. Lots of old stuff, black powder guns and accessories, and other odds and ends. Basically a hole in the wall that most people don't know about. Those are rare.

I'm just happy to see them becoming locally available again. I'm not ready to pay that price, but hopefully they will come back down before I run short.
