Title: Another Manhattan at auction
Post by: mazo kid on February 22, 2018, 01:02:07 PM
This was offered up a little over a month ago. I thought about bidding, but didn't :-[

Manhattans don't come around very often.

I am amazed at the very short description of it by the seller. Screw slots are good, and it appears that the pistol is in very good condition.

Mazo, if you had jumped on it a bidding war may have resulted and the final price might have gone higher. I think the buyer did very well at $700, but there is that Internet Premium of 18%. in the fine print.

Oh, well, save your hard-earned money for the next "deal".  :)

I have sold some guns through this auction house, about 90 miles west of me. I actually grew up in that area, went to high school there. The guy does NOT make the guns sound better than they are, but I sometimes feel he is a little too critical of condition. I didn't inspect the gun, but I thought it looked quite good. Yep, buyers premium, a bit less if you send in a bid before hand. Also a sellers premium!  So, they are making over 25% of the selling price. They do advertise the items though, magazines, papers, flyers, internet, etc.

IMHO that's a fine example of a Manhattan, and a very reasonable price as well on an original.

I turned down a very nice Manhattan back in the 90's for $300.00 because I didn't know then what I know now. I also sold my original 58 Remington for $500.00.

Nice original Manhattan at a reasonable price. With a S/N 28104 I think it must be a 6th Series (if they manufactured around 4500 per series). Then again I know a guy with a Manhattan S/N 515
