Ive never dealt with October Country but they look good. I noticed that their .454 round balls are nearly five bucks cheaper per 100 than Hornadys from Cabelas.
Those cased Patersons look good enough to take the plunge. Bucks-up though - but mad pretty.
-
Sweet baby Christmas Jesus, that one in the case is awesome! I need that one!
-
Take another look Dave. They are both cased sets and have the 5 spout flasks. The flask alone is over $100. The one for $450 looks like a good deal.
-
Hi, IMO it sounds too good to be true. The best gun deal ever? I suggest caution.

Richard

That's the one I was referring to Mike. I didn't even realize they were both cased. You're right about the flask. Even the crappy copies are well over $100. There's one on GB for $300 right now.
If I didn't have kids to buy Xmas presents for right now, I'd have that gun for $450.
-
I think Shotgun is gonna find an extra $450 somewhere. He sounds too enthusiastic not to.
Just a thought.

Hi, A concern for getting the Replica Arms Paterson is the availability of parts. Parts for the Uberti Paterson are difficult, if not impossible, to find and even getting Pietta Paterson parts is becoming problematic.
Regards,
Richard
-
The Replica Arms (Marietta Ohio) Paterson has a date code XX7/1971 and was probably made by either ASM or Uberti. VTI lists parts for both Uberti and Pietta Patersons.

-
Hi Jim, VTI may list them, but just try to order any Uberti Paterson part. Even the Pietta Paterson parts are scarce. I've had a Pietta Paterson cylinder on backorder for months.

Richard

You sound like you know me well G.
I'm doing battle with myself right now, as to whether or not I should sell one of my 72 Open Top 45's. I have two of them, and they are easily obtainable. The Paterson is not. The only real thing holding me back is the damn nuisance of shipping a cartridge gun. Going through an FFl and paying them fees. Gives me fits. If I could find someone willing to do all that, I'd sell it today, and use the cash to get the Paterson.

That doesn't bother me too much Richard. It's not a gun that would see regular use, so I wouldn't be too concerned with parts breakage.
-
I know it isnt a Paterson, but The link to October Country shows a Belgian made Colt 1860, extremely cheap ! &\?
-
A Euroarms Rodgers & Spencer cased set also appeared on the October Country website today. It includes a spare cylinder, powder flask, capper and nipple wrench. Priced at $375 + $25 shipping it's a fair deal.
-
Well like the saying goes, if ya snooze, ya lose. Both the Patersons are gone.
Maybe next time........ :'(
-
Hi Dave, sorry you missed out. Pietta is pretty good at answering questions on product availability. Suggest you email them and learn if Pietta intends on producing the Paterson again.
Very early in my marriage, my wife told me that timing is everything. ;) ;) ;)

Richard

I think I'll do that Richard.
And your wife is absolutely correct!
-
You were right Richard, Pietta is very good at responding to email!
I got a response from them today. Valentina says, they are assembling Patersons now, and they will be available at the end of January! I guess we'll see!!
-
Hi Dave, thanks for the info. The Paterson's have a more complex lock-work compared to the later Colts. Learning that Pietta will continue to manufacturer the Paterson is good news for Pietta Paterson revolvers. Maybe I will be able to get my back-ordered Paterson cylinder soon?
Regards,
Richard
-
Hi Dave, I just heard that my Pietta Paterson extra cylinder has come in. It has been months waiting, but suggests that we will soon see the Pietta Paterson on dealer's shelves. Keep your money dry.
Regards,
Richard

That's good news Richard!!
Maybe there's hope of me getting a Paterson after all!
-
Hi Dave, I sent the following email to Pietta:
<<When will you have the Pietta Paterson available for sale in the USA again?>>
Pietta replied:
<<They will be available in few weeks, please contact Taylor's and EMF>>
I emailed Taylor Firearms to confirm if this is true and what will be the price for the Pietta Paterson.
Regards,
Richard

Holy moly! That's good news if it comes to fruition. I may still get a Paterson yet!
-
Hi Dave, I got the following email reply from Taylor Firearms:
<<We do not sell the Patterson model any longer as we cannot warranty them. Thank you.>>
Maybe EMF will be the only USA distributor for the Pietta Paterson, if even that?
Regards,
Richard
-
Well that's disheartening Richard. Why would Pietta even bother to manufacture them, if they had no way to distribute them? Bummer.
-

Does that mean Taylors cant return defective Patterson's to Pietta for exchange or reimbursement?
Does that indicate that mechanically speaking Pattersons are a plural POS?
Disclaimer: I have zero experience with a Patterson. Word on the street is that they are hella damn problem prone. I dont mind having to do a little smooth-up on a new purchase but when I buy a new C&B I need a shooter - not a wall hanger or a big fat shop project. Anyway, Pattersons dont move me much.
Im Army/Navy, all the way.
Oh, and Ima Rem-fag, too. L@J

I want one purely for it's historical-ness. Much the same reason I'd like to have a Walker. Just for it's point in history.
A very wise man on here told me once, that these guns have to be taken in their historical context. They can not be expected to perform as a modern gun. Once you drop that expectation and just enjoy the gun and all it's idiosyncrasies, the guns realize their full potential.
-
Amen Brother Scooby, Amen.
-
Once you drop that expectation and just enjoy the gun and all it's idiosyncrasies, the guns realize their full potential.
That's a true statement. I agree.
Also, all the negative things I've heard about Patterson performance happened to involve Piettas.

I've heard that too G Dog. But I have zero experience with either brand. I'd just like to have one or the other, just to have a Paterson and connect with history once in a while. Kinda like my Paper Cutter Sharps.
-
Hi, agreed that Pietta Patersons come out of the box requiring attention to have them function correctly. Once the idiosyncrasies are worked out they function very reliably. Keeping a revolver functioning requires the availability of repair parts. Most Pietta Paterson parts are still available. Uberti Paterson parts are more difficult to find.

Richard

I'm not big on fancy guns but if I got a Paterson this Colt 3rd gen is the one I'd want.

You'd need to wear your "go to meetin'" clothes to carry that one Hawg...:)

I wouldn't mind having the one from Supernatural either with the Latin inscription I shall fear no evil but I think the pentagram should have been done in silver.

Hawg, that fancy one is $1700! But I agree, I'd love to have it.
It's great news that they have these in stock again. Guess I better start saving my lunch money.

Skipping a weeks worth of Mickey D's would get me pretty close! Have you priced it lately? (7+"

$24.00 for two 1/4 pounders, large fries and drinks. We only do it once or twice a month.

That is freaking outrageous. For 13 years we have lived in a very peaceful rural area in Western Lewis County WA 25+ miles away from any fast-food places as well as major grocery stores. When I worked for a living in a major city I would eat that stuff about once a day, but since retirement we don't go there. We have learned to make suitable facsimiles at home, like Quarter Pounders, garlic fries, onion rings, KFC (yes, I have a small pressure fryer and a bootleg recipe with 11 herbs and spices which is remarkable!), breakfast sandwiches, fish sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, Arby's Beef n' Cheddar, homemade pizzas, tacos, burritos, chalupas (the real thing, not the Taco Bell kind), chile rellenos (that's a chore!), pork-stew filled tamales (that's a two day ordeal but the recipe makes 48 tamales which freeze very well), and on and on. Being retired I have too much time on my hands and love to cook. I can make this stuff for 1/4 of the cost that the restaurants want to charge or less. Maybe being away from the commercial fast foods for quite a while I/We have forgotten what the "real deal" tastes like, but the homemade stuff works well for our palates these days and the bank account does not suffer.
My Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken flour mix:
11 Spices Mix with 2 cups white flour
2⁄3 tablespoon salt
1⁄2 tablespoon thyme
1⁄2 tablespoon basil
1⁄3 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon celery salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon dry mustard
4 tablespoon paprika
2 tablespoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon ground ginger
3 tablespoon white pepper (that seems to be the most important ingredient)
This is way off topic but I am just following the recent posts.
Regards,
Jim

Sounds like my 87-year-old MIL who has forgotten how to cook and thinks the bank account is endless.

E M F has new Patersons up for sale, right now August 2020.
I bought one 2 days ago. I don't know if Pietta will ever resume making these. These are some which EMF had held back for older preorders who backed out. But they put up these last ones now, (according to what their sales person told me on the phone when I finalized the purchase).

Patersons don't move me but Capt. John Coffee "Jack" Hays does.
Even dead and gone he and his horse make a profound statue.
