Title: Start thinking!
Post by: Captainkirk on February 03, 2020, 10:11:06 AM
OK, fellow long gun legions...listen up!

Due to the unbelievable response by members submitting some incredible photos for our banner contest, I have decided to start a thread here in long guns for photos of you fave 'extended muzzle' guns. No contest or banner for any of this, just a good, old-fashioned photo album of some of the incredible rifles I've seen bits and pieces of around this forum. Let's try to do 'em up with great backgrounds and accoutrements and such as we did with the revolvers! Just about anything goes...rifles, carbines, even stocked pistols. If there's one thing I've found, it's that visitors to the site as well as the regular members LOVE EYE CANDY!  (jh Let's give them something to ogle.
Since this is not a contest (though there might be a 'best-of vote later) you can submit any time with no deadline, and as many entries as you like. I know Scooby had some jaw-droppers in the past that got swallowed up in the PB fiasco of his Henrys, Winchesters, Marlins, Burgess, etc as well as some drop-dead gorgeous flinters and such. I'll be starting a new thread once a few picture get posted here; maybe we can have Dave move the photos and blow them up along with your description text for the photo gallery?
Anyway, hope this turns out as well as the contest did!

This is a great idea Capt. Everyone likes content. It's what brings people in and it also keeps people interested.

Things like this can breathe new life into our little corner of the inter-webs.

I know we're a primarily Colt cap n' ball pistol site, but 99% of us are just "old gun" guys. We like any guns from our chosen period of the 19th century and before.

You guys post em' up and I'll move them around to make it easy for all to enjoy them!

Well, maybe I can scrape a couple of photos up since I managed to procrastinate long enough to miss the banner contest. Can Dave (or you) consolidate the pictures as a "sticky" thread album of long guns?

We sure can EM. And once we get a few submissions, that's what I'll do with them.

Rat bastards. Even the pix that they allow through are either blurred or have their disgusting watermark splashed all over the photo.
I will never use or recommend PB again. Even though I pay for access to my Flickr account (due to the high quantity of photos stored there) it's only a few bucks a month...not 400 a year!...and they have never held my pictures hostage and demanded blood money. In fact, they gave me the option to either move or delete my pictures down to under 1000 and keep the free account or upgrade to Pro and gave me a full 6 months to do it.
I really enjoy the editing software so upgraded, and not sorry I did it.

Once the album is started, I will 'sticky' it so it will always be available for viewing.

I can still get my pics. I just have to copy them and move them to Imgur. I do a few here and there when I need one but it's a PITA to try to move over 2000 pics that way. I suppose one day they will freeze my account and I will lose what's left but I'm just too lazy to do it.

I already took everything I wanted. Flickr allowed me to create new albums, then I could select and move en masse (once I figured out how to do it!). What's left I really don't care about. What PB did to tens of thousands of forums and small accounts will and never should be forgotten as one of the lowest, dirtiest scams in modern history.

I went and got one of my guns back from the pawn shop and they still have that original 92 Winchester in 32-20. I wrote down the serial number and it was made in 1921. I wish somebody would buy it so I'll quit trying to figure out what I can stand to let go of to get it.

Another rather unusual rifle, this one is a German Stalking rifle in 8.15 X 46R, brass is made from either 30-30 or 32-40 brass, so is equivalent ballistically to those calibers. I have done some of each. A very nice light weight rifle!.

Wow Mazo,

I always thought the Hepburn's were an ugly over sized beast, that was until I handled one.
They are a true classic, and I must add a very small action. Pictures never do them justice.
I believe Hepburn built the falling block action so it would never have to be removed from the rest to load.

Here is a photo of the 45-50 Peabody cartridge. There is not much info on reloading, but since it is a black powder round, it is hard to go wrong. It is essentially a necked down 50-70 cartridge. The originals were paper patched cartridges. I haven't loaded any yet...The 50-70 is on the left.
