I was gonna take the Yellow Boy out in the yard for some plinking fun, but first thing I got a jam. Got it torn down now, will see about how to proceed from here. Geez, if it ain't one thing it's another! :'(
-
It's junk. Em. Send it my way and I'll dispose of it. ;)

Will you pay shipping? (7+"

Maybe you just need to walk away from guns for a few days. L@J

have you tried polishing the loading ramp? could be done carefully with a dremmel.

Dremels and guns are usually not a good mix, especially on a feed ramp. Hand polishing would be the way to go.

Only a few days? August has not been a good month as far as guns go.....except for my GREAT deal on the 43 Mauser!
-
actually, with the correct bits, you can do a fine job with a Dremel if you have a fine touch.

Just shipping? I'm your huckleberry! I promise I'll, umm...'dispose' of it properly. L@J
-
I think Scobby is on to something. Sounds like a cartridge O.A.L problem.
-
Yep, so now how do I get it out of the carrier? Just tap the carrier down?
-
I believe so Em. Push the carrier down outta the way, and you should be able to get the round out.
-
Thanks, next time i'm in the basement I'll try that.

Yup, shipping and handling....$975.00. Just kidding as I am not ready to part with it yet.
-
I can wait...I've got one now.
-
Yes, I know...44-40 caliber. Have you loaded any black powder rounds fo it?

Yup...I know you know. What's more, I know you know, that I know you know. Just having a bit of fun at your expense, Em. J*j L@J
No, I've not loaded any BP rounds...yet. All the bullets I bought were lubed for smokeless, and I've only put 10 rounds through the poor thing, thanks to CV-19 restrictions.
-
Black powder is the only propellent that should be used in a 44-40. Just sayin. L@J

You know, that I know, that BP is the only propellant that should be used. I'll get there...in the mean time, it takes me 5 minutes to clean my '66. Just sayin'... L@J

Okay, I'll give ya that. You have faster cleanup time. It takes me 10 minutes.

To disassemble the whole action?!!!!! :o

Why would I do that? I've disassembled it twice. Both times there was nothing in the action at all. The 44-40 bottleneck case obturates very well, and keeps fouling out of the action. No need to take the whole gun apart. I clean the barrel and the elevator area and I'm done.

I disassembled my 44-40 92 once. There was nothing in there. Keep an empty cartridge in the chamber when you clean it and you wont get anything in the action.

Or run the cleaning patches through the bore with the rifle upside down.

It is now 2020. By now, everyone should know that you dont have to tear down an action of a lever rifle if you shoot black powder. Even with a straight walled case. (7+" (7+"
Or a cap and ball revolver.
