Okay fellers. Just got these. A 1968 Replica Arms/ASM Model 2 and a 1989 CVA/ASM Model 3. I absolutely love these. These are my first ever Dragoons. They do need some cleaning.
-
Nice pistolas
-
Thank you Hawg. Interesting to me why are the wedge insert slots opposite? Did the Model 3 change the insert slot to the other side?
-
Nice! I believe the model 3 finally got it right with the wedge.... :). Looks like a Model 2 and 3?

Mick. Thank you!! yes, a model 2 & 3. Dang I'm excited about them.

I don't know why ASM switched sides. All model Colt dragoons go in from the left side.
-
Wickedly beautiful, Tim! You scored BIG TIME on both of those! :usa-flag-89:
-
You done good on those Tim. They are indeed beautiful.
Not sure why ASM put some of the wedges in backwards. Maybe Luigi thought he was making a Walker.
-
(7+"
Yep, they should all go in from the left Sept Fer the Walker.
( don't let that discourage you though).
Oh , . . . they got short arbors though !! (7+"

Thanks fellers for the comments and compliments. Haven’t observed the innards yet but will when I get to cleaning the babies up. I got a lot of short arbors Mike 😬 . Geez.

Learned something else from you......thanks!

Zulch- Hiding a horse is easy. It's hiding the barn, feed and various paraphernalia that come with it that becomes tricky.

:usa-flag-89: Zulch Super nice guns

Now why didn’t I think of that woodsrunner? A barn!! A novel idea! I just need the property now🤔🤔

Now I know good and well there’s a lot of folks out there been enjoying their Dragoons for years! Tell ol zulch anything I need to know about these horse pistols ? I am proud to have them actually more than any I own. I welcome any comments and would appreciate more knowledgeable folks helping me out . Thank you all for your kind remarks.

Pfft. Mr. Josey Wales didn't need no steenking horse. And he had a brace of 'em (Walkers)

Fun fact: In the book Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, it's clearly stated that Gus McCray carried a Colt's Dragoon.
"Makes a hole like a tunnel, son."

Congratulations on your double purchase Zulch they look great. Are you going to be shooting them one in the right hand and one in the left hand at the same time? Careful that you don't fall on your face if you do (7+" (7+"

I have a nice 1860 that needs a new wedge but can't find one any where. Do any of you know where I can find one?

Delbert, Hi. Who made the 1860? Pietta, Uberti, ASM ? You will need to know that first. Thanks, Tim
-
Delbert, Hi again. I have bought from all of the three links below: Hope this helps. Tim

Hi Delbert. I buy from VTI Gun Parts.
-
I’m glad to see your purchase, Zulch. My two #2 Dragoons are ASM from the same time period. Truly remarkable arms.
Congratulations in your find. They will do the fifty yard target with ease.
-
Dragoon Rick. Thank you Sir! That’s very good to know👍 Please feel free to post a picture of your Dragoons😁👍 thanks again
-
Those are beautiful. Congrats on the new irons. Thanks for all the photos.
-
Yes I agree Marshall…. Beautiful guns you got there Rick😁👍
-
Nice iron there Rick!
Dragoons are my favorite.
-
I don’t recall how I came across these Dragoons. I’ve had em several years now. I’ve read a couple of articles referring to the “Mighty Dragoons” and so they are. Any of you Colt lovers will really enjoy your Dragoons.
I was at a local range last year shooting various hand guns. Most shooters were using the popular 9 mm.
Fellow was at the far end of the pistol line and I was at the other end. I had a full charge! I fired and the guy at the other end said “I felt that all the way down here!” YesThe mighty dragoon.
-
Wow!! That’s a great story Rick thanks for sharing. :usa-flag-89:

Zulch,
Your new Dragoons are really classy l would like to hear how they shoot.
I’ve used 35 to 50 gr, loads l accept that these ASM Dragoons are stronger than original. I don’t get to shoot a lot, but usually use 40 gr load under a round ball .454 diameter. Also use a wonder wad. The cap and ball revolver is for patient shooters.

Rick, I will be happy to post after I fire these guns. I appreciate your posting loads that you've used. Thank you very much for your comments.

I had a Uberti 3rd model with the vertical latch. The lever would drop with anything over 35 grains of powder. It never was my favorite so I sold it.

All mine do, including the Walker. I've adapted.

The 3rd Model that I had, with the vertical latch, dropped the lever on every shot. The 3rd Model that I currently own, has the horizontal latch. It never drops the never, no matter how much powder I cram into it.
