Here's a new website with a lot of info on cap and ball revolvers as far as identification and history of makers and importers of replica revolvers.

It is information compiled by Dennis Norton using lots of the late Dr. Jim Davis' collections and information.    Some of you may be familiar with Dennis from other forums and social media platforms.   
I don't endorse Dennis or his website,  just looks like lots of information in one place.
