Title: Colt signature 1860 STAINLESS!!!
Post by: BOOMSTICK BRUCE on July 17, 2022, 12:34:39 PM
Found this at the LGS for a grand. I've never even seen one before!!! A stainless 1860 Colt signature series .44...

I can't get the pics to post fire some reason. I'll try from work tomorrow. If anyone wants this, let me know and I'll get them to hold it.

If its truly a stainless 3rd gen its a rarity as they only came in blue with a few being nickeled.

I had one of the nickel plated Sig Series 1860s years ago, sold it for about $600. Never seen a stainless steel version. By the way Bruce, that's not a Sig Series box, it's a 2nd Gen box made in the 1980s.

I thought the second gens were all made in Italy and would have import marks or am I wrong in that? Was the second gens available in stainless?

The 2nd gens were made from parts bought from Uberti and finished and assembled by Colt. There are no import marks. There were some made in stainless. 3rd gens were made by the Colt Black Powder Arms Co. which was owned by Lou Imperato and had no affiliation with Colt. Lou bought the license to make them. Colt did not offer the license. CBPAC made them out of Uberti parts in the old Iver Johnson factory with some small parts made in house. Colt will letter the 2nd gens and collectors consider them to be real Colt's. Colt wont letter the 3rd gens. They didn't make them, they wouldn't warranty them, they had nothing to do with marketing or anything else. Most collectors do not consider them to be real Colts.

Ohhhh.... I guess you learn something new every day... Here's the big question, for a grand, would it be worth it to pick up and resell to make a few bucks on or just let it go?

It's a stainless steel 2nd gen.  $1,000.00 is a little high.

I kind of hate to resell it so quickly. It's unfired in the original box. The last time i scored an unfired rarity was my Uberti/Lyman '58 "no warning" that lead me down the path to meeting smokey on THR and starting these forums 15 some odd years ago. Maybe i'll hang onto it for a while and show it off...

The Colt stainless 1860’s show up every now and then.  I have two 1860’s.  Unless you have some sort of attachment to that one,  I’d consider letting it go for the price that was offed if you need the money.  If there is no hardship for you in keeping it,  hang onto it for a couple of years and enjoy it.

Well, this turned into one of those "buy it now while you still can" deals. the gun was on consignment and while i was working 12 hour shifts waiting for today to come so i had time to go pick it up on my day off, he changed his mind about selling it and "is sending it to auction"...  -,\

i was so disappointed i bought a cetme instead...lol...

and got delayed...

fml...

cetme?  An AR style rifle?

Not what I would call an AR style. It's semiautomatic 308 roller lock rifle. I've always wanted one it's just whenever one came up for sale I either didn't have the money or it was more than I was willing to pay. I got this one for 850 with 2 boxes of ammo. It's an older model without the sight rail which I'm ok with since I have no intention of putting optics on it anyway. In the last year or so I've kind of lost interest in the cap guns and cowboy guns and might be dumping a huge part of my c&b collection here soon.

Thanks! Like I said, I'd be a player at an even grand, but 1500 is too close to what I could sell it for, too much of a gamble not enough profit...
