Title: Blow up Damascus
Post by: Hawg on October 12, 2023, 07:58:26 PM
This guy tries to blow up a Damascus shotgun barrel. I think you will be surprised.

But why?
Was he auditioning for "America's Got Stupid"?
Only thing missing from that demonstration was the "Hold my beer" part.
Sorry. Not impressed.

Never owned a firearm that
got used as a crash-test dummy.
But hey,
an experiment for the science.  He’s just trying to go where no shotgun has ever gone before and if he wants to blow it up, I’ll hold his beer, stand back and watch.

Won’t catch me doin that on any of my own guns but if the dude wants to risk the destruction of his own iron - I’m game.  That old rabbit ears really held up but bulged.  I was expecting an explosion.

It bulged because he forced a slug down a choked tube. Most people say don't shoot Damascus. Others say don't shoot smokeless. I grew up shooting 2 3/4 smokeless shells out of them. Dad was always trading shotguns and pistols so I shot quite a few of them. I remember the patterns on the barrels. I didn't know squat about Damascus back then or short chambers. I guess dad didn't know about short chambers or didn't care. I've been called a liar and everything else for saying I shot smokeless out of Damascus. I was just glad to come across somebody that actually tested it and made a video of it.

Dick Chubb, a gentleman who makes his living wheeling and dealing old iron, states damascus is fine with "low pressure smokeless" and has shot many of them.  I believe all anecdotes, but also want to be kind to century and a half old barrels and not feed them something they weren't designed for.

Yea, there’s almost a moral aspect to it.  Intentionally wrecking venerable old firearms seems downright sinful.
