General Discussion / Gold Damascening
« on: December 05, 2021, 05:44:43 PM »
Several years ago I bout a 51 Navy that had been finished with "Gold Damascening".

I had posted pictures of it here and asked about this process and no one responded with an answer. I found inside the grip frame on left side, "T. Kirkland 1970".

Alas! This month's issue of The American Rifleman has a really good article about this. Worth a read.

Off-Topic Discussion / Factory Ammunition Supply.
« on: June 28, 2021, 02:26:45 PM »
Ammo is showing up more and more here. At least in my area the fact that Remington is back up and running is showing as a lot of Remington ammo is appearing in the gun stores.

How is the supply in you area?

Walkers & Dragoons / Colt Walker cylinders
« on: June 28, 2021, 11:54:11 AM »
Sometime back I posted comments and pictures of my Colt Walkers with the cylinder in the white. This particular revolver is a defarbed Uberti.

The originals were all made with the cylinder in the white.

Has anyone else stripped the blue off of your Walker?

Percussion Muskets and Rifles / 1859 Berdan Sharps
« on: June 28, 2021, 11:45:24 AM »
One of my Sharps is a 1859 Berdan by Armi Sports. It is actually a really nice gun, accurate, very good metal t wood fit and good metal polishing.

I have had it for 12 years or more. One of the issues it it has a floating chamber that is supposed to minimize blow back into the shooters' face. After each shooting is is a pain to get freed up.

Recently after shooting it, I was able to get it freed up but it will not completely seat. This is preventing the falling block from going into it's home. I am suspecting that fouling is under the base of it. Do any of you folks have any Idea how I might fix this issue short of removing the barrel?

Powder Horns & Flasks / New Flask Just Arrived
« on: January 28, 2021, 11:25:11 AM »
I would guess that many here have a flask like this one I just got in the mail but I had not seen one before. Consequently I bought it as it was inexpensive.

« on: January 23, 2021, 10:41:45 AM »
Not sure if I am posting in the correct place but this seems the most logical. Feel free to move it as you'd like.

I just ordered a Lapage flintlock target pistol. When I actually get it will post better pictures and details

Ask The Experts / Need help with info.
« on: January 16, 2021, 09:38:50 AM »
I have a heavily engraved brasser, 1860 Army Colt. Do to the engraving, all proof marks, date codes and manufactures symbols are not visible.
The only thing other than the roll stamped cylinder in the way of marking is on the barrel. The name of the importer, "Connecticut, Valley Arms Inc" is on the top of the barrel.
I realize this is little to go on, but am hoping that one of you experts can help me here. My end goal is to get enough info to locate a "hand" the fits the gun.
A few months ago I posted about this gun.

The photo says Uberti but I have no idea what it is.

General Discussion / Been gone
« on: January 01, 2021, 01:27:24 PM »
I am sure that no one has noticed ( and that is ok) but I have not been on this forum for some time.
My lovely bride and I managed to catch covid a bit before Thanksgiving and still have it although we seem to finally be getting better.
Admittedly before getting it we were both kind of lacks in our attitude about it. It seemed the CDC changed it's mind on how serious, how contagious it is etc.

Anyway if this is you attitude i strongly urge you to take it more serious. Granted most people that get it do not even know they have it or it is very mild.
In our case it really kicked out butts! Fortunately we did not require hospitalization but we were a pair of very sick puppies!

Glad to be back

General Discussion / Not so good a buy...
« on: September 23, 2020, 05:21:19 AM »
Over the many years that I have been buying and selling guns (mostly buying) I have gotten burned a few times.
I'd love to hear about purchases you have made that did not turn out so good.  &\?

Navy Models / Colt 1851 Navy
« on: July 15, 2020, 06:57:52 AM »
Last week I was in Cody WY at the Winchester gun show. I bought this Colt 1851 Navy with all matching serial numbers except the wedge. All lettering is crisp and the cylinder engraving stands out really good. Nearly all of the case hardening on flash guards is intact but darkened. Very little pitting in the bore, timing is good and it locks up tight!

Serial numbers show it was make in 1861.

Unfortunately someone on the past appears to have used steel wool on the side of the frame.

Off-Topic Discussion / Confederate Flag
« on: July 02, 2020, 08:21:08 AM »
I see the forum has yielded to the rioting and burning Marxist, minority of the population and taken down the piece of our history, the flag of the Confederacy.  :(

I just got this 1851 Sharps rifle with Maynard primer system. It is a 60 bore (approx. 42 caliber)  According to Frank Sellers only 193 1851's were produced. Of these only 30 with round barrel and 60 bore were made. I am fortunate to be it's new "caretaker"!!
