Army Models / Found !

Herself and I were doing an inventory of the firearms to bring it up to date. Pulling out firearms, noting make, model and serial and taking an image. We found a few I had forgotten, including this one!

I cut this one a couple decades back for reasons long forgotten.  I used a Sawzall to chop the barrel and grit paper to clean up the muzzle. I must have liked it as I made a set of elk grips for it.  Have not seen this one in years!

Leather / New Sunday Scabbard
« on: September 13, 2022, 07:21:56 AM »
Not a black powder holster per se, but black powder cartridges were in revolvers that fit these holsters back when they were common, so it might be appropriate for this sight.

Here is a modern iteration of the Texas Ranger Sunday Scabbard. It was built as a concealment holster as the Rangers were ordered to loose their gunbelts, guns and ammunition when they were becoming more frequent denizens of the cities.  The hardware scared the genteel population!  Captain Hughes came up with a modification of the basic Mexican loop design and approached several saddlers with his ideas. The Kluge brothers were some of the more prolific makers of the design but there were as many as 24 or 30 other saddleries that built it.

Here is mine, built for a target sighted N frame.

Army Models / Model 1860

Hi All,

I don’t visit here as much as I used to.  A lot of things have changed. One of them is this,

It was given me by an old friend who bought it and fired it a few times before deciding cartridges were preferred

What is the change?  I have several other 1860 s, but this is the first Pietta.  It is so new to me I have not had a chance to compare it to my others.  I will and then post what I find.

Happy Thanksgiving to all

Flintlock Muskets and Rifles / Charleville
« on: July 07, 2020, 04:17:12 PM »
Digging through the pile and found this old Charleville. Got it before (?) the bicentennial. Imported by Navy Arms and made by Miroku. I used it a bit and retired it. It accounted for several deer even though smooth h bored.

A good friend of mine and I hunted together. He had a Brown Bess. Charleville several pounds lighter. And the swivels did not hurt either.

Off-Topic Discussion / A Parting Gift
« on: January 06, 2020, 07:19:51 PM »
As some of you know, I have been paring down the number of firearms I have.  I have always bought and sold but usually a few more stayed then left.

We have two neighbor boys who have always been helpful to us, shoveling snow, raking leaves, cutting the lawn, etc. We have always paid them but the boys have been helpful, and not just to us. The elder boy came home from college and I was talking to him. He mentioned the younger brother was a Senior and would be in college next fall.  For some reason, I had not calculated that.

Anyway, I went into the house and talked to my wife. She agreed and I grabbed two boxes and a couple of gifts. I quietly spoke with the parents it I already knew the answer.

Neither boy expected a present from us and were reluctant to accept them. I explained that with us planning to move and them being away at college I felt it appropriate to give them these now. I do not believe you can imagine the look on their faces when they unwrapped the boxes. Each boy got two 1860s, one Uberti and one Colt. I explained the Ubert was for rough usage and the Colts for occasional range usage. We had all been to the range before and they knew their way around percussion revolvers.

A couple of days later I saw them getting out of the younger ones truck and the were shooter and smelled of eggs, with ear to ear grins.

It was a good Christmas.

Has something changed on the forum in my absence?  When I log in, the is no longer the shortcut for “new answers to your posts”  and “new post since last visit”.  Or similar phrases, there gone, I can’t clinch on them.

 Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!!!!!

I am not as frequent flyer as I used to be but still think fondly of all of you. I hope today brought you good times with family, friends and good food.

My wife and I spent the day delivering over 100 meals to those who could not get out or cook for themselves. Very humbling to be thanked and blessed by those less fortunate than ourselves.  They are very appreciative but the blessings are misdirected, we are merely the messengers bringing the fruits prepared by others.

« on: September 24, 2018, 07:09:02 PM »
It has been a while since I was last here. Life has continued and so have I. Our business is florishing leaving little time for internet or range. So ... I have listed a few things in swapping and selling columns

As stuff sells, more will be more offered.

Great for Christmas!!

Army Models / Interesting Front Sight

My brother missed out on this 1860 in an auction.  We speculated on the reason for the front sight.  Let's hear your thoughts.
