Single shots / CVA Pistol Rebuild
« on: April 07, 2023, 09:10:10 AM »
Well, I can't take credit but my son has finished another.
He started out with a CVA Hawken Pistol. If anyone has played with one they are BIG, we dubbed it the club.
He picked up a CVA Mountain Pistol stock, the retrofitted the 10" Hawken barrel to it. The CVA Mountain Pistol's had 9" barrels.
He had all the brass hardware  nickle plated, as well as the Thompson Center Renegade Ramrod Thimble which he used.
He used the Trigger and Guard from a Mountain Pistol. The Hawken Trigger and Guard were a one piece setup.
I did fabricate the barrel rib for him and my brother did the drilling & tapping. I think it turned out pretty nice.
That old Hawken Pistol was a hard to shoot (being so huge), I think this will be much friendlier for him.

« on: February 02, 2023, 02:54:09 AM »
Hello Guys,

I just had to show off my latest restoration.
It's a 1967 Polaris Colt Model 80, meaning it's powered by a 4-stroke Kohler 8-hp.
Here's a picture of my friend on the left & myself on our Colt 80's, they have consecutive serial numbers.

Percussion Caps and Primers / Look what I found.
« on: November 23, 2022, 07:52:36 AM »
I was digging through my shooting box, trying to organize a little before this weekends Muzzle Loading Hunt.
When I stumbled across this box of Remington Caps, still has the wrap around it and the price on the back.
Looks like I paid top dollar for them too.
I thought Hawg had a picture of this same tin, but I'm unable to find it.
I think I'll just set them aside for now.

Percussion Muskets and Rifles / Non-Toxic Projectiles
« on: October 13, 2022, 02:17:25 PM »
Hey Guys,

Ran into a new obstacle, Non-Toxic Projectiles.
We've been drawn for a Special Muzzle Loading Hunt here in Minnesota.
It's in a State Park, we are required to take antler-less only. This will be our 4th hunt there.
Just reading through the Minnesota Law Book and ran into a "New Requirement", Non-Toxic Ammunition Requirements in Minnesota State Parks.
I've been shooting cast bullets with a sabot, so it's not really that big of a change for me except shelling out over $1 per bullet.
I contacted Barnes Bullets, asked what the diameter of the Spit-Fire T-EZ projectile was.
They replied .451" and verified that it was Non-Toxic. So I can remove the sabot which it comes with and place my sabot on to shoot my .54 caliber.
Always changing things, I'm just lucky I read through the book, with about 1 month before the hunt.
I suppose they will make it necessary state wide pretty soon, it's already a requirement on Waterfowl Production Areas.

Other Models / I missed out on another.
« on: April 01, 2022, 12:43:04 PM »
Well Guys,

Looks like I missed out on another, of course the bid was way out of my range when I discovered it.
I just can't believe a Palmetto of any kind bringing this kind of money.
How does the old saying go, "A fool and his money are soon parted".

« on: February 01, 2020, 04:05:00 AM »
Hello Guys,

FYI, I just received a New LRH from Track Of The Wolf for my son's TC Hawkin, 50 cal. 1:28 twist.
I don't know if Green Mountain is making these again or if Track just broke down & special ordered some.
