Pocket Models / Defarbed Rem 1863
« on: May 03, 2024, 01:25:20 PM »
Picked up this defarbed replica.

Haven't shot it yet.  Springs are hell for stout.  Upon cleanup it has what looks like a nice forcing cone.

Took some bright light and magnification to find the ASM marking.  No clue as to date, can't find the code.

Lead casting / broke my Lyman 4500
« on: March 08, 2024, 07:37:44 PM »
Well, actually just one of the bolts connecting the linkage.

Thankfully hardware store had 1/4x20 half threaded of correct length to replace it.  I went with Grade 8 and plan to be a little less ham fisted.

Sizing these Lyman 429244s.

Modern Colt Revolvers / Officers Model
« on: January 17, 2024, 07:51:13 PM »
Is 1948 modern?

Traded for this last year.  My first Colt double-action.  My understanding is that before the Python this was Colt's top of the line revolver.

Winchester / R92 .45 Colt
« on: January 03, 2024, 06:02:17 PM »
Got the Rossi out to the range.  Been trying to see how it likes cast.  The Lee 255 RNFP seated to the crimp groove in .45 Colt cases fed 100%.  I thought accuracy was just fine considering the crude sights and just elbows on the table.
Ran 65 rounds through it.  Did get a smidge of leading so may try a little harder alloy or see  if .454 will chamber.

Wasn't able to get down there for as much due to hitch in wife's recovery from surgery, but did manage to burn some powder and spend time with some awesome folks.

Some of my 50 yard work.

Oh yeah, they were selling new GOEX 😀.

At The Range! / WWC 2023

20 souls braved 75 degrees and blue skies to shoot the Wiener World Championships on Sunday.  Lots of laughter, good natured ribbing, and of course everyone went home with an assortment of meats.  The best part was that there were new faces on the line, including the 20 something year old young man who won the match.

Smokeless Repeaters / .45 S&W in a levergun?
« on: April 13, 2023, 04:25:21 AM »
Gents,
I'm thinking of getting a pistol caliber levergun (only levergun I currently own is a .22).  I was thinking of a .45 Colt as my SAA clone is so chambered.  I use .45 Colt brass for "full" power loads in it and .45 Schoefield brass for lighter ones.  Does the shorter brass run in .45Colt chambered leverguns?

Many Thanks!

Gunsmithing/Parts & Repairs/Refinishing / Barrel turning tools
« on: December 23, 2022, 08:43:25 AM »
Does anybody have the proper tooling to tighten/loosen the barrel from the frame of a SAA?
I have a clone that shoots ~6 inches left at 50 yards.  My intent is to put an index mark on  the frame and barrel under the ejector rod, do the math, and turn the barrel in the correct amount.
Having read up on in Kuhnhausen I would like to use the proper tools to avoid marring the barrel (bad) or wrecking the frame (worse).

Anybody have such tooling?  I would be happy to compensate you for their use.

Merry Christmas!

.45 Colt may be a little more than necessary for squirrels.    But it was fun.
