Police Models / 4 1/2 or 5 1/2
« on: April 03, 2017, 05:30:22 AM »
wanting to pick up a 62 police,
can't decide
what one to get
the Dixie with a 5 1/2 barrel
or
The Taylors/cimmeron 4 1/2 barrel (as dixie doesnt sell the 4 1/2 barrel)

pro's and cons of a 4 1/2 or 5 1/2

thank you
John

General Discussion / Uberti sellers
« on: March 27, 2017, 04:45:50 AM »
is there any difference in markings on the barrels (less or more) or in quality control
from
these uberti sellers?

Taylorsfirearms?
Cimarron?
Dixie?

I thinking of a 62 pocket police
or a 49 pocket
I see that Dixie doesnt sell the 4.5 version 62 and usually has a lower price

thank you
John

Patersons / capping a Paterson
« on: March 24, 2017, 06:44:27 AM »
I don't like having to cap the paterson cylinder off the frame,

so sitting here this morning, i was looking at my snail caper and with the revolver empty of powder,
tried the capper with it ASSEMBLED
IT CAN BE DONE
just pull the hammer to half cock and cap in the hammer groove--cap spin-cap spin cap spin cap spin--one empty

Patersons / Shimmage
« on: March 23, 2017, 05:01:28 AM »
OK so I'm looking for info on tweaking my Paterson,
measured the barrel on the frame---1.681
measured the barrel over the frame-1.542

this gives me a shim depth of .139
Do i go a tad under on the shim? or no?

anyone totally strip the innards out for a clean up? or tweaking like we do to other colts?
any warnings? things NOT to do? to good to do?

Patersons / My Paterson
« on: March 22, 2017, 04:06:26 PM »
How it goes bang is
the little thingie--drops down when you pull back on the horn sticking up
you point it at anything other than yr foot
touch the "thingie" pull the "thingie"

THEN it goes BANG,,,

stuff flys all over the place
INCLUDING some SWEET BURSTS OF FLAME

just thought id share a pic of my first firing of my Patterson with you,
filmed with a go pro and i cropped out the explosion and did a jpeg of it

NOTICE--it didn't melt my 5 foot roof-berg pileup
no chickens were harmed while shooting the Paterson, dang i wish ida seen a fox though

Patersons / My Paterson again
« on: March 21, 2017, 12:40:55 AM »
how do you tell a ubertie from a Pietta

i have zero manufacture markings that i can find
 words or symbols

there is no serial number on the bottom of the grip frame
there is no number or markings on the under side of the frame or barrel

I have a "PN" under a star  marking on the cylinder  next to one of the nipples
I have "PAT N"  under along the bottom of the stagecoach scene

Police Models / 62 police question
« on: March 14, 2017, 01:05:37 PM »
how much smaller is the 62 compared to the 51 navy ?
could someone post a picture of the two together?
I have the  51 navy and am thinking of the 62 police or the 49 pocket

anyone have side by side pics of all 3 ?

don't know if i want to go with a .31 caliber but id like one of the smallest pistols, short and light
and have read the 62 is the same size as the 49 but in .36
then I'm gonna go for the BIG BOY walker kit

thank you very much

Army Models / spare cylinder ?
« on: January 13, 2017, 12:35:37 PM »
excuse my thick pudding of a brain,

but for what reason would you want a spare cylinder for a colt?

I get it for my Remington 1858 pop out pop in,,,

but a colt?

or is it to just have one unused one and one to fill up and go bang with?

Army Models / 1860 teardown
« on: January 13, 2017, 05:49:59 AM »
So i stripped it yesterday, after shooting,
this morning i was looking around, for fit and finish,

the spring on the hand was put in crooked, so i straightened it out, there is no tension to it when its inside the slot, ? how much tension?

when pulling back the hammer the Hand goes down, felt a rub/catch, looked and the shoulder stock screw hole was never smoothed down from the drilling and tapping,
and also the screw end is proud to the hole, catching the bottom of the hand as it comes down the slot,
some tinkering here for sure,

trigger guard to frame fit was perfect, that made me happy as my other two the R1885 and the 1851 were off-set a tad,

the grip when i grabbed it with a damp palm as i was cleaning it in the sink after firing, gave me a red-stained hand, nasty dye,
soaked a lot of it out with some acitone and I'm now giving it coats of True-oil

more to come

went to cabala's to return my flask for a new one,
a poor lonely 1860 Army winked at me, promised me a good time, and told me shed be faithful.
snatched her up and brought her home,

The last Pietta 1860 army at the store,
alls left is 20 1858 rems,

Time to STRIP her, clean her up and see what she bucks like with 6 loaded cylinders

my collections growing

Navy Models / Reloading Stand
« on: January 08, 2017, 03:40:30 PM »
spent today building it,
cut the parts out, then tossed them into the wood stove on the coals to beat the wood up,
then glued and screwed,
coated with one coat of poly
needs to be sanded and coated again,
had fun,

probably put a copper-capture half cut tube on the top of it,

Navy Models / FUN
« on: January 06, 2017, 10:51:05 AM »
so yesterday i shot oh about 24 rounds, and stripped it, cleaned it, then started polishing, and polishing,
paying attention to the feel of the rubs, and working them out, cleaned it again and put it back together,
SMOOTH, and nice clicks, the last two clicks pretty much on top of each other-?

smoothed out the hammer face, and notch, where I've read if its rough it catches caps,,and out of my 24 earlier fired i caught 5 (better odd than me fishing)

went out today, loaded up with Swiss 3f  18 then 20 grains,(tighter groups with 18)  and fired another 48 rounds, not one cap stuck, got bored with the target and started shooting a coke can across the yard,
aint much left of it, and didn't miss too often, its DIET coke now,
no binding, it just kept spinning and firing, except two misfire-caps (CCI) no problems with my remington caps and they go on and fit better, the CCI's tend NOT to seat down
all the way as i can't lower the hammer to recheck it to the safety pin, and end up pushing all the CCI's in deeper,

DANG it is fun,
spent another hour having fun cleaning her up. its MORE fun to clean than my rem58

1-I can push out my pin with my fingers, and it does come all the way out if i tilt it up--is this normal? i thought the screw was there to hold it from coming all the way out ?
2- do you guys grease your innards? or just oil them?
3- how often do you do a complete teardown-cleaning?

savn for a 1860 for sure ok maybe a 61  I'm wanting to try a short barrel sheriff/police
