Off-Topic Discussion / Just another boring El Camino post
« on: January 24, 2024, 11:34:55 AM »
Sorry to bore you guys with car stuff.....but this is where I've been spending all my time and money. Thankfully this part of the project is getting closer to being done. I'm just hoping the bank account holds up to actually finish the thing. I've got more hours in this than I'll ever reveal, and some incredible help along the way.

Off-Topic Discussion / New Family Member

Meet Daisy, the newest member of our family. We picked her up yesterday from her shelter foster family. She's a pit/heeler mix. Just a little sweetheart. She seems to be adapting well to her new surroundings. She's got a wonderful tender personality....lots of kisses and snuggles.

We haven't had a pet for a number of years.....and it's awesome to have another dog.

Open Tops / Pictures, pictures, pictures......
« on: November 08, 2022, 02:08:37 PM »
As Hawg mentioned, it would be great to fill this place with pics.

I'll go first to kick things off. This is my 72. Just like most any other, except this gun was carried by the actor that plays Virgil Earp in the OK Corral Shootout reenactment in Tombstone, AZ and has been fired (blanks) many times inside the OK Corral. I had the arbor fixed and a general tune-up done. It came with faux ivory grips, but the original wood was far better looking.

Let's see yours!!

Leather / What do you think?
« on: September 25, 2022, 02:59:07 PM »
On another forum, somebody was showing off a new holster for their 60. It was basically a modern holster. A comment was made that since it's a fake colt, holsters shouldn't matter.

What do you guys think? Do you prefer period correct (or close)....or is anything OK?

Guns of Infamy / Geronimo's Rifle
« on: July 02, 2022, 12:57:16 PM »
Geronimo "surrendered" a few times before his final capture and relocation to Florida. His rifle of choice was a 73 Springfield (79 modification). He preferred it over the Winchesters. The first pic is a rifle he surrendered to John Clum in 1877.

He was deadly with that rifle, see this short article https://frontierpartisans.com/1794/firearms-of-the-frontier-partisans-geronimos-rifle/

Finally, one of my favorite historic pictures is Geronimo surrendering to George Crook in 1886. It's interesting to look closely at the clothing worn. Note Crook is wearing moccasins and a pith helmet.

The Apache Wars was the longest war the US has ever fought. Even though Geronimo's "band" was quite small and included women and children, they held off the USA from 1849 to 1886, with small skirmishes continuing until 1924.

Hope the pics work.....

Guns of Infamy / Very Interesting Historic Firearm.
« on: June 18, 2022, 01:15:15 PM »
One relatively unknown character from the Apache War era was Al Seiber. He served as "Chief Of Scouts" for much of those doings. He served with Gen. George Crook and was a mentor to Tom Horn among many other remarkable things. This is a character that should be more well known.

Here is a pistol and holster that supposedly belonged to him. Quite interesting. Love the holster as well. You don't see many of these pistols with a cartridge conversion. He was far better known as being proficient with a rifle. His go to was a 76 Winchester in 45-75. In one battle with the Apache's, the Army managed to kill 18 Apaches.....Al's count was 9. I wouldn't have wanted to go up againt this guy!

More about Al.... https://frontierpartisans.com/773/al-sieber-chief-of-scouts/

General Discussion / Polish Cappers
« on: February 28, 2022, 03:39:22 PM »
Who here has a Polish Capper? How do you carry it? Curious minds want to know. I know Shotgun Dave made a couple really nice "holsters" to carry them on a gun belt. Anyone else?

Off-Topic Discussion / Great news for AZ residents!
« on: February 25, 2022, 06:09:35 PM »
Gun buying may get cheaper for those of us fortunate to live in AZ! Hopefully it passes the Senate.

Proposed is no sales tax on firearms or firearm accessories including safety equipment.

Also, they want to make it it mandatory that all public schools offer shooter education classes......and last but not least....deny any state agency to enter in to a contract of $100,000+ with any entity that discriminates against the firearms industry.

Just got this email a few minutes ago...... Fingers crossed! The state Senate will probably crush it.....but those guys will most likely get voted out....

This week, the Arizona House took action on a number of pro-gun bills, passing four off the floor, which will now move to the Senate for further consideration.

House Bill 2166 exempts firearms and firearm safety equipment, such as gun safes and gun locks, from state transaction privilege and use taxes. This recognizes that the government should not be placing additional cost barriers on citizens who wish to exercise their Second Amendment rights, and who wish to safely store their firearms.
House Bill 2316 expands areas where concealed carry permit holders can lawfully carry concealed firearms, to include certain public establishments and events.

House Bill 2448 requires school districts to offer age-appropriate firearm safety instruction to students in grades six through twelve. This legislation will help empower youths with this basic knowledge of respecting firearms “from a qualified individual with a focus on safety rather than from popular culture and various forms of media.”

House Bill 2473 prohibits public entities from entering into contracts worth $100,000 or greater with businesses, unless they certify that they do not discriminate against firearm businesses. Anti-gun banks and their executives have expressed interest in denying services to the firearm industry as a way to further their political agenda and impose gun control by making such business impossible when legislatures won’t bend to their will. Banks should evaluate firearm businesses like any other business and consider financial risk, rather than ideology, in their decisions on providing services. This ensures that Arizona taxpayer money does not go to such businesses.

Unfortunately, House Bill 2489 failed to pass by one vote when the House reconsidered it. HB 2489 would have created a Provisional Concealed Weapons Permit for adults aged 18-20 years old, to ensure that they are not deprived of their right to self-defense.
NRA will keep you updated as these bills receive committee assignments in the Senate. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.

Off-Topic Discussion / 1877 Colt Lightning
« on: February 25, 2022, 03:05:58 PM »
As promised, here are some pics. I previously mentioned it made manufactured in 1884....I was wrong, it was made in 1882. This is an absolutely gorgeous revolver and if I had the $$$, it would be home with me now.

This is as close to the actual revolver that John Henry "Doc" Holiday carried during his time in Tombstone and after. His was in the first 40 made by Colt.

Of all the Colt revolvers, these are right at the top of my list. Fit and point of aim are spot on. It fits nicely in a front pocket.

I apologize, the pics aren't the best....but you'll get a good idea of just how pristine the little pocket revolver is.

Leather / Well....
« on: February 22, 2022, 01:58:38 PM »
It's finished. The small camo stamp covered most of my "slippage'. It was a gorgeous piece of leather that I'd been saving, so I needed to try and make it work. Pistol hasn't been fitted yet.....it's with Jackrabbit  (Dave) who lives nearby....he's fixing the arbor and slicking things up a little. Should have it back later in the week.
