Well, I saw my Arch Nemisis, IE, the Staney creek bear.

This is the bear that thinks he owns my duck hunting area. I believe I have mentioned before that my duck hunting area is quite a hike down (about 5 miles round trip)  a long trail next to a decent sized creek. I have a Lund stashed there, along with my lock box of decoys and such.

2 years ago, he musta been hungry and followed me all the way from the marsh, over 2 miles keeping just out of effective shotgun range with my number 2 steel shot. I don’t know about you guys, but I am not inclined to wound a bear or trust my accuracy with my 44 mag edc at that range, so I just kept going and that stupid bear kept tailing me and my dog missy. Pretty eerie hearing him behind me all that way, glimpsing him when I turn around and wondering if his balls were big enough to make a move on me.

Well, here he is… this time, I think it was me stalking him, and I was able to get some footage of his fat azz….

He is flat out too big and old for me to even consider him for food. And considering that it’s just barely spring here, he is fat. I think he woke up fat from hibernation, And he will grow to monstrous proportions by fall feasting on salmon. I am debating on if I should kill him now, or just leave him be….

What say u?

Hunting / Nice Sitka Blacktail down in SE Alaska...
« on: November 06, 2021, 07:34:58 PM »

Killed a real nice Blacktail on Prince of Wales island in SE Alaska... cast 120g boolit straight through the neck at 40 yards ish... Really big chunk of a deer stepped out as i was quietly creeping up this old road up to my deer stand... I always make it a point to hunt in and hunt out, and this time a dandy came right to me...

i had been looking for this deer for several weeks sense he showed up on my trail cam in the grainy misty black night here in the rainforest. a HUGE blessing.. there is something about a huge mature deer walking in prepared for a fight. they come in all juiced and and stomping throwing their antlers around.. makes ya crap yer pants!!! LOL

that is the end of my season... nothing else will fit in out 4 freezers!!!!! its been a great year for hunting!

Hello friends.

It is with deepest sadness that i must report Emery Stluka (mazo kid) died suddenly on 9/24 of a cardiac arrest.  i was contacted by a member of his family tonight.

Thank you Emery for all of the late night message exchanges and kindness you have shown me here on Colt, and in our private emails. I will cherish the knife you gave me, and will always remember where it came from, your heart.  We will see each other again brother, and I know you will understand. I know you are with the father now.

Hunting / 2 more Hanging....
« on: November 19, 2020, 01:00:18 PM »
Got enough fresh snow to spot some fresh sign yesterday evening. Headed out at the crack of first light to follow up on the previous evenings scouting. After about a mile of walking quiet and rattling, this doe stepped out followed by her Boyfriend, a real nice 5 x 4. I took aim at about 40 yards and let the Hammer of Thor (160g flat nosed custom MH boolit from a group buy bluejay ran a while back) fly at the Doe first, then locked another round into the Remington bolt gun and slammed the Boyfriend through the boiler room. They both piled up about 50 feet away and about 10 feet from each other. Of course they were both in the water, lol.

it was a Major Muskeg (swamp) so I hiked home and got my son to help me drag them both out.

I was very blessed this morning...

Hunting / deer hunting with cast
« on: November 09, 2020, 07:33:03 PM »
hi guys...

not sure if anybody has ever seen a SE Alaska buck... they are not like lower 48 deer or even Columbia black tails. they are Sitka Blacktail deer. small bodied, and very small antlered. the deer I killed today is considered large for here. one look at the muzzle and eyes will show you that the deer was very mature. it is the largest deer i have taken this year and for several years.. they are ghosts at times due to the dense nature of the brush here.

i killed him this morning with a shot through both lungs at about 95 yards. he ran about 30 yards and fell over dead. thank you Lord...

hi guys...

last year I got a New DJI Mavic Mini that I haven't gotten around to use much or learn how to use.. way more  complicated then my ole hubsan..  the thing is tiny... about the footprint of my Iphone 8...

i bought it so I could just throw it into my daypack and when he opportunity arises, it flys and gets scouting footage and so forth.

i took it for a test flight today around the neighborhood... here is the video..

i am pretty excited about it.. came with 3 batteries and each battery can keep it airborne for about 30 min.. gives me well over an hour of flight time in a tiny pakage.  it only weighs 250 grams so its no biggie on weight in the backpak.

anyway, forgive the quality.. i am working on it..

Hunting / First Bear of the year
« on: May 21, 2020, 03:27:06 PM »
hi Guys..

I have been hitting it hard looking for a couple burger bears... seen several but the season was off to a slow start for me and my wife until last night.. about 730pm a pretty decent male crossed in front of us at about 95 yards. i lined him up with my lever action 1949 marlin 336 in 32 win special loaded with a homemade  175g cast and let it fly.  I saw him hit hard, but instead of a bang flop he ran up the side of a steep ass hill. at the top of the hill, i heard him give off the customary death moan, so after about 10 more min, i started climbing up the steeper then crap Mt MotherFricker (marine corps days) with the wife backing me up with her 30-06.. we got to the top of the hill and it became some really thick dark rainforest snarl brush, so we climbed in and went a few 100 yards and then the wife spotted him curled up behind a stump. i had her flank him while i did the frontal approach with my taurus 44 mag loaded with the lee 310g home hard cast bullets. i was so dark in the thick forest I couldn't tell for sure if he was breathing or not, but he had not moved so in I went.. about 10 yards or 10 feet, not sure which, that big sucker got straight up and Hissed at me and snapped his jaws a couple times. i had to kinda aim around the tree but let fly one of them big 44 mag bullets and he went down for the last time... i have never had a bear play dead before and am not accustomed to anything but a clean kill, so it was a bit un-nerving let me tell you, and this was my new wife's first bear hunt. she hung in there though.

i knew the bear was larger then my usual 2-3 year old I try to target, but after hauling him out of the downed trees and tangled devils club of the Alaska rain forest, i knew he was a heavy.. and so did my Back.. we got back to the road dragging the bear with my bride who figured this was a normal hunt... but it was anything but normal.

i figure the spring bear topped 300lbs cuz he was a solid 220lbs field dressed... a bit larger then the 150 lb'ers that I usually go for.. My aching back remembers why I leave the bigger bears to the trophy hunters. they are just too much work... give me one of these every time..

i did see when I got it skinned, the first shot was completely fatal.. a double lung and top of the heart... its just some bears dont give up!!!

Off-Topic Discussion / unique tazer experience..
« on: February 19, 2020, 06:34:03 AM »
WARNING FOR ALL Weirdo MEN like me... my resemblance to this story is possible, but it did not happen to me.... But it could have....

Last weekend I saw something at The Gun Show that sparked my interest. I was looking for a little something different for my wife Dana. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized Tazer.

The effects of the Tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home.. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed... I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Dana what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Leo looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping Leo (for a fraction of a second) and then thought better of it. He is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?
So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a singlet with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Tazer in another.
The directions said that:
a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant;
a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water.
Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.
All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries); pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'
What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.
I'm sitting there alone, the cat looking on with his head cocked to one side so as to say, 'Don't do it stupid,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad.. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it.
I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and...
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE... !!!
I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.
Note:
If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a Tazer,
one note of caution:
There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor!
A three second burst would be considered conservative!
A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape.
· My bent reading glasses were on the top of the TV.
· The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was.
· My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching.
· My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.
· I had no control over the drooling.
· Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone.
· I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair.
I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!
PS: My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it!
rotflmao... have a great day...

General Discussion / Last Meat Deer of the year Hopefully!!!!
« on: November 17, 2019, 07:26:57 AM »

Cat and Mouse game through some real thick stuff but she is down. i cant begin to tell you how valuable a good hunting dog is... probably wouldnt have recovered this deer without her. Shot was perfect, a double lung presented and was nailed with complete pass through. heart and liver still useable, deer went around 100 yards through the tangled mess, with the usual 0 blood trail that I could follow, but My missy dog found her. the gun was my 1949 Marlin 336 32 win special shooting 165g cast over case full of homegrown BP... this combo has taken bears and my deer this season. i really like the original Post redicle scope in the dark forest, and the gun just loves that load combo. it is also very handy that the gun is short.. it carrys very well in the thickness of our rain forest. Now I can just focus on Ducks the remainder of the season... here are a couple 1 min videos of my duck area...

been truely blessed this season with full freezers.. thanks to the father.

Off-Topic Discussion / Alaskan SauerKraut the old way...
« on: August 20, 2019, 10:41:23 AM »
So its harvesting time here in Alaska. one of my favorite things is making Sauerkraut. i love it.  basically all you need is 12 days, about 6 heads of cabbage, a fresh horseradish root, good salt like the pink sea salt, and some dill stalks ... and of course, the Cabbage Dance!!!

No toes were harmed durring the making of this video.. be sure you clean your feet well before and after this process..  if you are worried about your OWN feet, just wear gallon ziplock bags..  but I can actually reach and clean my feet.

have a great day!!!
