Percussion Caps and Primers / Review count
« on: March 19, 2024, 11:53:02 AM »
Since I began working on “perfecting a percussion cap tool and function”. I’ve kept a count. I have information posted here and on YouTube with a channel “Rick Foster”.  This began about three years ago when caps became scarse. They continue to be un available.  I’ve had 108631 reviews as of today. The count climbs each day.  I’m sure Thad’s a small percent of Blackpowder revolver and rifle users. And there are many other cap tinkers
I’m glad to have had a hand in supporting the sport.

We see the same barriers in the price of ammo and firearms.

Percussion Caps and Primers / Interest in caps
« on: February 25, 2024, 07:14:36 PM »
I’ve been working on the percussion cap scaresity problem now for three years.  I’m about to the end with a trip tomorrow to shoot a couple of black powder revolvers.  The interest remains highe as the caps are really scares. At this time I’ve had  100,000 plus  to read my material. This includes you tube  and Colt country forum.  I’m astounded at the interest.
Again thank to this forum for your patience and support.

Army Models / Damage to 1860 sheriff
« on: January 27, 2024, 04:15:24 PM »
I’ve reported on this new to me Pietta 1860 sheriff.  It’s a beautiful revolver. I noticed damage to the cylinder notches done by the bolt. There must be a lacker finish that was chipped or scratched.  If the cylinder and bolt are out of line this can only get worse.
If any of you have an observation I’d like to hear it.

General Discussion / Percussion cap making video
« on: August 27, 2023, 08:01:25 AM »
I’ve been away for a while.  I saw on a local Facebook forum a posting from a man who bought a new Pieta 1858.  He has been unable to find caps to run it.  I intend to produce another cap making video of better quality and sound than of my recent offerings.
At this time I’m recovering from a surgery.
It will be a few days. May the Lord bless all of you.

General Discussion / Watching out for newbies
« on: July 20, 2023, 08:43:18 AM »
About a week ago I visited a local Cabelas store over in Allen.  As usual I drifted over to the Blackpowder muzzleloader Display.  A young couple was looking at the stuff o supply a cap and ball revolvers he had purchased.
Also a employee was attempting to assist them.  They asked me if I knew anything about BP revolvers as this was his first. Well yes I replied to them.  He claimed to have read articles about his revolver.   ?????
It seems the salesman was helping them gather supplies.  He pulled off the shelf a container of H38 “ pistol” powder and a box of Hornady 180 gr jacketed 44 bullets.  To be used in his new brassie 44 Colt.
I interrupted this exchange of “information “.   Just because the container s labeled pistol doesn’t make it suitable for his revolver. But in fact is very dangerous.  It was a very eye opening experience.  He left with a Traditions cap and ball lol pack.
The sales person also received a gentile lecture about Blackpowder  safety.
       I. Should have given the new. BP shooter my phone number.

Percussion Caps and Primers / Caps are still scares.
« on: May 06, 2023, 05:53:28 PM »
After all these month’s percussion caps remain hard to find or afford if you can find some.  Making your own caps is still an effective self sufficient choice.

Percussion Caps and Primers / eBay “tap-o-cap”
« on: May 06, 2023, 05:41:49 PM »
I noticed sone one is making and selling a percussion cap making die for about $25. On eBay.  It looks very professionally made.  The instructions say it is only for a snap cap use. I might check it out.  It uses soda can or roasting pan metal. It produces a cap the same as my star board, or the 6 shooter die. The sell #10 or a #11 die
Oh and a musket cap die.   It appears to be plastic so has a limited life.

Navy Models / 1851 navy .44 sheriff Opinion?
« on: February 12, 2023, 06:46:22 PM »
Do any of you have experience with or opinions about those  .36 or .44 1851 navy “sheriff” revolvers. I’ve been wanting one for some time.  I even have a 1858 Pietta .44 sheriff.  It is some compact compared to the regular 1858.
I’m interested in the 1851 sheriff as it’s compact.  But not a  brass frame

Powder Horns & Flasks / Powder horns for Christmas
« on: January 05, 2023, 09:05:59 AM »
Ta been a while since I’ve been here! I got a couple of horns to be used in making powder horns.  So thing to support my muzzleloaders  I don’t know much about cow horns.  One is flexible the other is very hard. I had to resort to a side grinder with a sanding disk.  These were aChristmas gift from my brother. He inquired about what I wanted for Christmas.  Well I told him a powder horn would do. He got me these horns he had laying around. They are not powder horns yet, but will be

Wads, Lubes, Patches, Cleaning Supplies, etc / Cooking spray
« on: August 20, 2022, 04:00:59 PM »
Have any of you used cooking spray like “PAM” as a wad lube or lube for the revolver after cleaning?
I did not see any examples on YouTube.  That should mean something.
I have in a pinch used such spray.  It did not rust.  Parts moved smoothly.
