Well crap,I skimmed midway last night when I came in house, they'd got a handful of 5.5" barrel brass frame Pietta 51 Navys in and also on sale L@J,I realise not totally correct but not the .44 caliber thing either, and honestly I dont have a problem with the never were guns as long as a fella knows what it is,just a fun gun to shoot :)
I kinda wanted a cheap gun to play with,I want to try aging one and something without a long barrel will be handier to carry, also something that I dont care if stocks and metal get banged and scratched up while working around farm,it should fit my wants very well.

Ask The Experts / Uberti 1862 Pocket Police ??
« on: May 05, 2021, 07:16:47 PM »
I have 62 Police, and it shot about 14-15" high and 2" right at12 yards,I did little fileing on rear sight deepening V and taking more off side to move windage,my windage is now dead on,however I really dont want to file hammer notch any deeper,as it is I filed fairly deep and just barely put front sight into V of rear sight and still am 5-6" high at 12 yards,my question is.
Are those front sights just pressed in? looking at pistol it looks like pressed in with a very slight round swage around brass post,if so what is best way to remove sight? do I need to carefully drill or can I just pull out with vice grips to make taller front sight post?

I carry and hunt a lot with handguns, once I found load she likes I believe she'll make a dang handy easy to carry cap and ball squirrel slayer just need POA and POI dead on.

General Discussion / A good day burning charcoal

Little background,2 or 3 weeks ago I took a 58 Remington with me when my Lady friend and I went fishing, she shot it and loved it,she told her dad about shooting the cap and ball, and found out he had one he bought years ago and never shot it or even remembered for sure what it is,but he'd always wanted to shoot blackpowder.

Yesterday we loaded up the pickup for the 2 hour roadtrip with several various targets,I took 4 revolvers,2 colts,1860 Army,1862 Police,2 Remington 58's one a Navy and a Army with 5.5" barrel and not knowing what his revolver is multiple sized bullets and balls,we got the Old gentleman loaded up in pickup and drove out to pasture,he had a blast shooting them all for couple hours  (@+ .   I really had a great time showing him how to load and shoot them, his pistol is a brass frame Pietta 51 Navy, but 44 caliber, was still wrapped up in plastic bag with the full coat of packing grease,I suggested he just leave it new so he didnt have to worry about it rusting, and shoot what I'd brought,so thats what we did, next trip down to visit I'm going to take Hawken caplock and a Pennsylvania flintlock for him to shoot.

I kind of overwhelmed him with all the crap I took,I'll fix him up with just the simpler necessities to shoot his if he ever decides he wants to shoot his own.

WE had a great time, when we got him back home into his easy chair he immeadeatly fell asleep with his candy bar snack half open   ($!

Bought my first Colt Navy around 1985,it is Brass frame so was warn out and loose by 1990  L@. Pretty much was into flintlocks only by then and with kids lot of hours working  never really had time to shoot a percussion revolver anyway,Kids grown married and I slowed way down my working hours,I'd picked up a ROA  few years back and was shooting it occasionaly, when ammo got short last year and I had plenty of stuff for .36 cap and ball revolver I bought me a Uberti 61 Navy,in the last few months I've jumped into the hobby with both feet, somehow my warn out 51 Navy and ROA has turned into 8 various replicas of Colt and Remington in just a few months,my cartridge guns are getting dusty and lonely.

I've been checking the Colt and Remington forums couple times a week for month or two, decided to go ahead and join today,I couldnt see a lot of the pics and was thinking maybe more show up if I belong to forum, plus its possible I just may have a helpful hint or idea to pass along some day, doubtful but possible  (jh   ,I have picked up a lot of good info here.
