Saw this behind a glass case display at an Army base. It appears to be an original but I'll leave that to the more educated fellers here on CC. Just wanted to share the picture. Enjoy.

Conversions / Conversion Cylinders
« on: December 21, 2023, 05:59:35 AM »
Howdy all, I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the holiday season with their families.
Okay, I do not have any conversion cylinders for my BP guns. I've been looking on Midway at the available conversion cylinders for the calibers that I have. I was thinking of maybe buying one for a Dragoon and or the Walker? I see a lot of Howells brand. I have also heard of the Kirst cylinders. I would like some opinions from anyone willing to share their experience. From what I remember, it seems that there are different opinions about shooting a smokeless cartridge in these black powder guns? I've heard the metal used in these guns are not designed for that? Also, if I were to buy one for a specific gun is it best practice to have a gunsmith do the fitting? Anyway, at the risk of sounding redundant on this topic I am starting this post. I would love to know the pros and cons on this topic. Thanks Z

A friend who frequents gun shows as a seller and buyer. Has a collection of guns that are to plenteous to count, but whose counting? He recently bought these 4 guns for $350. Claims they were movie prop guns but are functional. Maybe someone here will help identify these pistols? Oh, he said one is a replica by CVA.

Brass and Other Cartridge Casings / Paper Cartridges LLC
« on: July 27, 2023, 05:57:59 AM »
A military historian that I know put me on to this website. The owner of the company is Brett Gibbons. Has anyone ever purchased from him? I just emailed him and he replied quickly and said that "the demand is incredibly high" and that he is still producing as quickly as possible.
He sells Pritchett's, Whitworth cylindrical, conical bullets' .44 and .36, balls for .58 and .577 calibers to name a few and also producing authentic paper cartridges including authentic paper cartridge box (packaging). He said that everything sells quickly so he is constantly producing more on a daily basis.

Off-Topic Discussion / Anchor Steam Brewing Co. San Francisco closing
« on: July 13, 2023, 06:51:39 AM »
For what it's worth, I'm sure that anyone who enjoys a beer now and again and is from the pacific side of the U.S. may have heard the recent news regarding the Anchor Steam Brewing company.
I had my first Anchor Steam beer back in 1981 while on a road trip to Los Angeles. ASB eventually made it to the east coast in the early 90's I believe. It is considered to be the oldest craft been brewery in the U.S. I am only aware of one other Steam Beer and it is called Angel. I believe it still is or was brewed in England. Not sure if it still exists. I did not realize that Sapporo, a Japanese brewing company had purchased Anchor back in 2017. They rebranded the labeling and packaging. They even began selling canned six packs and it was hard to find it bottled anymore around GA. I bought a six pack in the cans once and the cans appeared smaller yet it said 12 oz right on the can. I opened one and a large amount of beer just jumped out of the can on to the countertop. It seems as if there was no "wiggle room" in the can? So when the little tab sank into the can it forced some beer out. A poor design. It seems to me that Sapporo did not do much for the Anchor Steam Brewing company but maybe helped them close the doors after 127 years?

Ruger Single Action Revolvers / .22 LR SA Ruger Bearcat
« on: April 11, 2023, 08:46:28 AM »
Howdy everyone, I have this revolver which once belonged to my Dad, now deceased. I have been trying to locate the manufacture date. Ruger has a site for S/N lookup but it doesn't seem to know what to do with my entry? I did find a Ruger Information graphic chart with serial numbers. I think it is safe to say, based on it's serial number 61740, that this falls somewhere in the 1st run stage meaning from 1958 up until 1974 at which point they stopped manufacturing them and not the most recent 1993 and forward guns. The 1993-2023 guns have serial numbers beginning with 93_XXXXX.  If anyone has any ideas as to where I can get some good information on Ruger serial numbers/manufacture dates that would be great. It's a nice little shooter. Fun and cheap to shoot for sure. If you've ever owned one of these I would like to hear your stories.  :usa-flag-89:

Winchester / Rossi 92? LSI Puma? What gives?
« on: April 05, 2023, 06:42:31 AM »
Here is another lever action rifle chambered in .45 Colt belonging to a friend of mine. I only have the one picture but he stated that this is his earlier model Puma? Earlier meaning??
I assume this was made by Rossi' for LSI ?? Help me here. Is the Puma branding merely placed on a Rossi' 92? Are all Puma's equipped with the saddle ring? Now, I really like this rifle. I hope to be shooting it this summer as he says he is going to bring it up to his Dad's house and let me fire it. I do not believe he is interested in selling it. He has however, offered to help me find one to my liking. I'm interested in hearing from anyone here who owns of one of these and or has had experience with one and why they like it or even why they don't like it? Thanks guys!

« on: April 04, 2023, 11:36:46 AM »
I have been looking of late for a lever action rifle. I know this guy that has this one. He sent a picture of it. the photo is not the best but it's what I have. He said this is his 1894 I'm trying to beat him out of it. (7+" I ain't having much luck. He's got a couple of Rossi' 92's. I'd like to beat him out of it too.  (7+" (7+" I'll post those under Winchester. If you have one of these here rifles please tell me the pros and cons as I would like to have as much information as possible before I buy a lever action. Also, what are the best manufacture years for one of these?

Photo Opportunity?  No big deal just thought this was something to talk about. Wonder what pistola she was packin'?? any ideas out there?  :icon_scratch:

Open Tops / .44 Spl S&W Not Seating Correctly
« on: January 09, 2023, 11:07:44 AM »
Howdy folks. HELP!!!  So, it's Sunday afternoon. I have my new ammo. :cowboypistol: Ready to have some fun time. The ammo is made by Precision One, an American company, .44 S&W Special, 240 grain Semi-Jacketed Soft Point. I loaded the first round and it would not seat against the cylinder. I said uh oh, I think? So I tried cycling the cylinder carefully pulling the hammer back and gently letting it fall. It cycled through okay without seeming to bind but by the time it got to about the 9 o'clock position it would bind. So I pulled the wedge out, slid the barrel off, then the cylinder and pushed the round out with a dowel. I've discussed this with Capt. Kirk and Shotgun Dave. They mentioned there possibly being a "restrictor" identified by a marking in the cylinder thus preventing the round from seating properly. Like maybe it's too long? I held the cylinder up to the light and sure enough there are circular lines up in there. I decided to give Cimarron a call. I asked if there were restrictor lines or whatever to prevent a .44 S&W Special from completely seating. He said no, there are no lines/restrictors. He then said that gun will accept .44 Special and .44 Russian. They were very polite but could offer no explanation and I even asked if there was someone else there who may be more knowledgeable. The answer, no. They did have a new cylinder they were willing to sell me though. Thank you, have a nice day. So now you know the story. Has anyone here ever experienced anything like this? Should I have to apply a certain amount of thumb pressure to the round for it to mesh with the cylinder "mouth"? It's just shy of seating? What's up with that? I do have snap caps in .44 spl S&W and they drop right in like flint. Thanks all.

Off-Topic Discussion / New Years Eve Plans?
« on: December 31, 2022, 05:43:12 AM »
Howdy folks, just thought I would start this and see what you fellers are planning for the evening. If so inclined, please share your plans for the evening whether it be sitting in an easy chair with your favorite beverage or just hangin' around.....maybe from a swinging chandelier?? Also, feel free to share your New Years Day plans. Any special traditions? Special foods you enjoy? :big_drink_2:
I will start with my simple plans. The wife and I plan to go to an early dinner (so as to beat the crowds I hope) in the downtown area here then go back home and have some snacks later in the evening and wait for the bell to toll. Personally, I will not miss 2022 and I certainly pray for a better year in 2023 for all. To all the Colt Country Forum members I wish for you all, a Happy and Healthy and Prosperous New Year!!  )l_
May your blessing be many and your troubles few.  :cowboypistol:

Open Tops / LGS Find!!
« on: December 14, 2022, 08:27:32 AM »
So I visited an LGS recently and came across this fine lil gun. It is a used 2010 Cimarron/Uberti RM Type II, chambered in .44 spl. So I put it on layaway. Went back to pick it up and the guy threw a Cimarron Texas Jack holster on the table too, telling me it came with it. That was a plus. :cowboypistol: The cylinder has a wee bit of ring around the collar but not too bad. The bore and rifling look to be in very good condition. All in all a not too worn out 2010 RM replica. Now just need to get some ammo and try this baby out.

Guns of Infamy / Elmer J. McCurdy aka Charles Smith
« on: December 14, 2022, 07:43:50 AM »
Alright fellers. It has been awhile so I'll "dig up"...... yet another dead guy and see if it sparks any interest. The extent of my knowledge on this outlaw is what I have gleaned from the glorious internet. I've never read any books on the feller. Maybe some of you could tell me a little more about him. This guy led an interesting life and an even more interesting life, after death. Allegedly, he was active in the carnival.....after he was killed.  :icon_scratch: His show business career lasted 50 years they say. Apparently his life of crime was not so successful due to the fact that he wasn't so bright a character. Purportedly, he was not so skilled in the use of nitro glycerin either but did know just enough to get him into trouble. Ill fated attempts to blast safes open ended in disaster often. He managed to destroy any monetary gain within any safe in his path. I realize now that he was certainly no gunslinger of renown but he was shooting at the Sheriff and the small posse just before he was struck with a bullet from a 7.65mm Luger automatic pistol. I wonder what gun he was using to fire at the posse? I can't find a darn thing about his gun?  Oh, and he did some time in the Army as a machine gun operator. Maybe one of those water cooled jobs? Okay, okay.... so he's no Billy the Kid or King Tut or even the 6 million Dollar Man, I'll grant you that, but he does have an interesting story and history.     L@J
