Army Models / 1862 Army I put an offer on
« on: July 22, 2023, 05:00:40 PM »
Today I put an offer on a 1862 Army serial number 62008.
I think they’re going to take the offer.
If so I’ll go get it tomorrow.
It looks decent and seems to work as it should.
The grips are in poor condition and missing the screw above the wedge.
All numbers appear to match except I can’t find a number on the cylinder.
Would you leave it as is?

It appears to be in very nice condition with one exception. It has a dovetail blade front sight.
This looks to be a glue on sight with the dovetail above the barrel.
Any idea on the value.
Not sure of the maker?
Didn’t see ASM on it anywhere.
Considering going after it Monday

Army Models / Salesman sample no serial number?
« on: July 23, 2022, 05:30:19 PM »
Have you guys heard of such a thing?
I looked at one today. It has the number 7 everywhere it’s should have a serial number. It’s in very nice condition.
Any ideas on value?
I’m giving serious thought to this one due to condition.

Army Models / Giving some serious thought to an original 1860 army
« on: July 21, 2022, 01:06:43 PM »
It’s at a store I went to. Looks to be in very nice condition and seems to function. They’re asking $2250.00
Just curious if that’s close on value.
I’ve seen Navy’s for a touch more.

A friend and I are at a relic show and he bought a Bacon pocket pistol.
An open top very similar to a Colt.

Walkers & Dragoons / Who makes Walker replicas
« on: March 18, 2022, 06:01:03 AM »
And which ones to avoid?
I have yet to see a Pietta (my preference so far) based on the good luck I’ve had with them on other models.
I have started my hunt for a Walker.
Not in a hurry. I need to learn more.

Navy Models / Looking at another Pietta 1851
« on: March 01, 2022, 04:08:37 AM »
This is at the LGS right across the road.
The guy got it in and immediately called me.
Nib but a bit tarnished here and there. The cylinder has copper in the scene. Makes it really stand out.
Not sure if I like that or not. Appears to have never been fired but date code says 2016.
Asking $300.00  that’s more than I want to give but I like to support this store. We live way out in the country and to have this store is a true blessing.
Just curious what everyone is seeing new ones sell for  recently.
I can also trade in if I chose.

Off-Topic Discussion / Cannon ball
« on: February 11, 2022, 03:14:43 AM »
Still BP related but I found a 10” cannon ball 114 lbs for sale within a couple hrs from home.
This would have came from a sea cannon. I’m just learning about these. Trying to be able to verify this is what they say it is.
Also possibly found a bayonet for my 1861 Springfield.
Should be an interesting weekend

Just curious is the only difference the round barrel.
I understand the G&G were 36 cal also.
Thinking Pietta here.

General Discussion / Great day for BP supplies
« on: December 18, 2021, 02:44:25 PM »
Went to town this morning to visit the LGS to see what was new. Wound up in the next town over buying a very cheap Coleman LP stove for lead melting.
While there I noticed a couple hand made holsters. A guy saw me looking and we started talking. He said they are made locally at a muzzleloader store. I went and found that store.
They had several Pietta and Uberti pistols. I fell in love with a Walker.
I bought a couple lbs of Goex 3f and a 454 ball mold.
I found a holster I want and they had lots to look at.
They had a very expensive 1861 Springfield replica that I thought was far off from an original but they had some cool stuff.
They have quite a bit of Goex and some other powder they sell in bulk for $17.00 per lb.
they also had a Navy like I want.

Lead casting / 454 mold
« on: December 06, 2021, 04:07:24 AM »
Starting to search a 454 ball mold. Been looking at Lee 2 cavity molds as they’re the only thing nes I’m finding instock.
Any reason to stay away from these?
Any other advice appreciated.
I now have a Lee bottom pour and a cast iron lead pouring pot. I don’t have a heat source for the cast pot but will use new soft lead and only the electric for now.
