I know that Kirk (and others) have tried to contact members, notifying them of the new Colt Country. Did they use the membership list with the email contacts?

Off-Topic Discussion / Steampunk?
« on: September 12, 2021, 03:17:30 PM »
With all the talent here, I was wondering if anyone has ever made a steampunk gun?  Doesn't have to be a functioning gun. I have thought about it a few times (very short thoughts!) but I have more than enough projects to keep me occupied without getting involved in something like that. Still.......

It is NOT a Colt, or even black powder, but it is an interesting gun.

Off-Topic Discussion / Seven gallons!
« on: August 10, 2021, 12:09:14 PM »
My wife donated blood last week and has now given 7 gallons!  I was a couple of pints shy of 3 gallons when I could no longer donate blood. Some folks say I am a couple pints shy of one gallon, but that is another story... (jh

We had some heavy weather roll through today. We got 1-1/2" of much needed rain, but no high wind. There were tornados in the area but not near us.  Lucky I guess!

A photo of me back when I could still use the snowblower! Yeah, I guess it was a mite cool that day.

At The Range! / Shooting hiatus

I haven't shot much lately; just conserving on supplies even though I have enough for a while. Also, I hurt my shoulder (shooting side!) lifting something heavy over my head at an angle. That will take a while to heal.

Leather / Leather preservative
« on: July 29, 2021, 12:44:47 PM »
I did a search for leather preservative....WOW! Kind of like asking which pickup truck is best. All kinds of opinions. It seems that it depends somewhat on what leather you are looking at.....horse tack, jackets, upholstery, belts, holsters, etc. Some say Lexol is no good and others praise it, and so on. It also seems as though Pecard regular and Pecard Antique are the same product, marketed to sell to different users. I did find a recipe to make home-made preservative, so may try that at some time.

1858 Remington "New Model Army" Revolvers / Pietta releases new gun
« on: July 27, 2021, 01:53:39 PM »
I don't know if Taylor's & Co. ordered this gun made, but Pietta is shipping out the "Ace" to Taylor's, which is a 3" barrel on the Remington '58 frame. It has 3 grip choices: white PVC, checkered or smooth walnut. Price is $350.00 with the checkered grips.

Off-Topic Discussion / USFA trivia
« on: July 26, 2021, 05:08:34 PM »
On the last page of the latest American Rifleman, there is an article about a USPFA Buntline Colt. They used this name for a few years until Colt sued to have the "Patent" part of the name removed. The company renamed USFA in 1997. The company rented space in the old Colt "Blue Dome" where they made their quality firearms. Turnbull did the casehardening, bluing, and oxide finishes. The guns were made in-house until mismanagement and non-delivery of critical parts led to the company being forced out of business. Does anyone else have more to add? I have an 1873 USFA Colt and it is a beautiful revolver.

Percussion Muskets and Rifles / Original Smith carbine
« on: July 24, 2021, 11:37:55 AM »
If you have read my recent posts, you know that we had a very enjoyable visit with old friends who have found their way back to this part of the country. Steve likes to restore old guns and he has an original Smith carbine he is working on. He made a replacement action latch-spring and actuating lever as they were missing. He needs to make the buttstock now and I told him I would send a tracing of my repro Smith stock.

Navy Models / London Colt
« on: July 24, 2021, 11:28:47 AM »
While visiting with our friends yesterday, Steve showed me his original London Colt. It had a period cartridge conversion done to it by a gunsmith/blacksmith. The recoil shield was riveted to the frame( (jh) and the loading gate was hinged at the top instead of the bottom. Steve said he would send some photos, and when he does I will post them.
