« on: May 31, 2022, 12:07:28 PM »
Got a new Uberti Richards Mason this past weekend from my LGS.  2022 date code, Cimarron barrel address serial number, date code and proof marks on underside of barrel lug and frame.  Fit and finish are excellent. Action smooth but heavy, trigger breaks right at 3 lb.

General Discussion / Rock Island March 30 Auction
« on: March 19, 2022, 11:01:11 AM »
Was perusing Rock Island's 30 March Auction Catalog last night and found some potential good deals.  Lots 756 through 778 contains a number of 2nd Gen, Sig Series, Uberti, Pietta, ASM, and ASPs with low starting bibs that could go cheap. Items include ROAs, cased sets, multiple gun lots, a Paterson, a couple of Walkers, some Remingtons, Dragoons and pocket pistols.

Ive bought many lots from RIA in the past both single and multiple gun lots and have never been disappointed.

General Discussion / 3 more with Holly grips.
« on: January 07, 2022, 01:05:00 PM »
Three more pistols have Holly grips now.  Decided the Stainless Navies needed a new look. This makes 12 that I've had done by Spider John now.

Authors Mike Cumpston and Johnny Bates.  Book is loaded with information and data on, not only Colt's; but, other percussion revolvers of the period, extending to the Ruger Old Army.  One major failing was the short shift they give the use of wads.

Colt Collecting / Cased 1849 Pocket Pistol
« on: January 20, 2021, 11:22:08 AM »
Mailman dropped off this 1863 vintage, 6 shot, 4 inch barrel 1849 Pocket Model yesterday.  It's nothing special, just your everyday
pocket model that got the benefit of cased accessories.  It has some bluing showing, along with faded case colors.   It locks up with no over rotation, and has no cylinder turn line. The case is by Bill's Cases, Flask was a modern reproduction, as is the cap tin.  Nipple wrench is 2nd Gen and the mold is a well used original - I think.  I've already swapped the Flask and mold with what I believe are originals.  I need to get my Percussion Accoutrements book out and do some research so I can validate the accessory's pedigree.

I recently purchased this press kit off of eBay.

Vintage 1979 press kit from Colt Industries on the introduction of an expanded range of Blackpowder cap and ball revolvers. Includes outside folder, two press releases, product information sheets and a photo of each of the revolvers except for the Baby Dragoon, plus a photo of the accessories.

General Discussion / What's in your possibles bag when you shoot?
« on: August 06, 2020, 01:46:54 PM »
ShotgunDave started a poll on "Your favorite way to load your BP Revolver".  There were more loose powder and ball users than other methods.  It got me thinking.....don't say it........... What equipment, tools, supplies do the loose powder users actually use, and how.  I load my pistols on a pistol stand, charge a chamber with powder measured from a silver plated flask with 22 grain spout, then place a Sage Outfitters lubed felt wad on top of the powder, followed by a .380 cast roundball from The Log Cabin Shop. Then advance the cylinder and repeating the process until five chambers have been charged.  The possibles bag and items in the picture are what I carry to the loading area to charge my pistols.

Off-Topic Discussion / Where do you reload and work on guns?
« on: July 22, 2020, 12:01:31 PM »
I know this topic has come up before; but I think its worth repeating.  My gun room is a basement storage room with concrete walls & steel door, all hooked into a monitored alarm system.  Utility sink is in the adjacent utility room.  I've added a couple more pictures of the armory.

In the early to mid 1980s, Uberti produced a line of stainless steel percussion Colt revolvers that were imported to the US by Allen Firearms, Santa Fe, NM; Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply, Inc. Angleton, TX, Uberti USA, Navy Arms, and Western Arms Corp and possibly others.  They are now also known to have been sold in Europe under the HEGE dealer name.

Phil Spangenberger did an article about these stainless revolvers in the October 1983 issue of Guns and Ammo Magazine. According to the article, the models that were being imported were the 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, 1861 Navy, 1862 Pocket Navy, and 1862 Pocket police. Thanks to Dr. J.L. Davis of RPRCA, Claremore, OK, I have a 1984 price list for Uberti products that lists fourteen different models of Stainless Steel Colts produced by Uberti at that time. Subsequent price lists expanded the line to 16 models by adding 4 ½ inch barreled Pocket Navy and Pocket Police. The complete model list, known so far, is:

1851 Navy, Oval Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36 *
1851 Navy, Square back Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36 *
1851 Navy, “Sheriff’s Model” Oval Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36
1851 Navy, “Sheriff’s Model” Square back Trigger guard Revolver, Cal. .36 *
1860 Army, Military, Cut For Stock, Cal. .44 *
1860 Army, Military, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .44*
1861 Navy, Military, Cut For Stock, Revolver, Cal. .36 *
1861 Navy, Civilian, Revolver, Cal. .36
1861 Navy, Military, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36*
1861 Navy, Civilian, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 4 ½”
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 5 ½”*
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 6 ½”
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 4 ½”*
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 5 ½”*
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 6 ½”
(* - have identified location of examples of these models)

The current total of known revolvers is now up to 39; number 37 being found on GunBroker by Shotgun Dave back in April, another 1851 by an unknown bidder in Dec; and, a civilian model 1851 identified this week. I still have 4 of them, and know of thirty-five in the hands of other collectors or BP shooters. Five of the 35 are located overseas - One in England, one in Spain, one in Poland, and two in Switzerland.

Anyone with information concerning Allen Firearms, Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply, Western Arms or any other Uberti Stainless Steel Colt style revolvers is requested to contact fingersmcgee@charter.net  I am seeking information as to models, manufacture dates, serial numbers, barrel markings, barrel lengths, trigger guards, and any other characteristics as well as any catalog, brochure and original packaging information.

Of course, if anyone has any for sale, I would be interested in that also.

Pocket Models / One very rare Pocket Model
« on: June 29, 2020, 05:21:59 PM »
Here is a pocket model unlike any you've seen before, that I got from Rock Island Auctions.  It is an unfired Uberti 1848 Baby Dragoon with a 4 inch barrel, made in 2003, in the white (NOT Stainless Steel) from the factory with original box and papers.  You might say it is New in the Box.  There are no markings on the frame other than the serial number and date code. The barrel has 2 proof marks on the right side, serial number on the bottom of the lug; and " Cal .31 Black Powder Only, Made in Italy " on the underside of the barrel.  Could have been a special order by Taylor's. (?)  All of the markings; with the exception of the two stamped serial numbers; are very faint and could be eliminated easily.  Could this pistol been destined for some fancy engraving?
