General Discussion / Re: Old vs. new brass frame reproductions
« on: May 18, 2023, 05:28:55 PM »
My first BP gun was a traditions/pietta brass frame 58 "buffalo" circa 2005, with a 12" barrel. The guy at the counter called it the "buntline special" lol... Anyway, I would just pour powder into the chambers until the were full, scrape any extra off the face of the cylinder with a credit card, and just press a ball in. No measuring, no wads, no grease, just powder, cap and ball. I shot that thing until it was so loose you would have to point it to the sky to get the cylinder to engage the hand. so don't try and tell me, Mr. Beliveau, that brassers "will handle it" as they surely will not "handle it" for very long...

Luckily when I bought it, it was on sale for $199 at bass pro, I sold it to a gun shop for $200 three years later... :cowboypistol:

Winchester / Re: Rossi 92? LSI Puma? What gives?
« on: April 10, 2023, 11:07:12 AM »
When I got my first 92, the blued braztech SRC, i replaced the springs with the steves gunz kit and filled it with regular old white colgate toothpaste and worked the action while watching tv for about an hour. It's smooth as silk now. My stainless interarms "pre safety" 92 SRC got the same treatment but it was already pretty smooth after the springs were replaced. it too is smooth as silk, if not more so than the blued rifle...

On another note, i like the saddle ring carbine the best. the saddle ring attachment loop gets the rifle up off the table a little bit and makes it easier to pick up in a SASS match...

You can load .45 colt beyond .44 mag pressures. Why do you always want to push the limits? :icon_scratch:

Because, I'm Elmer Keith reincarnated...lol...

so please explain "ruger only" loads. I thought it was 45colt loaded to 44mag specs. if these handle 44mag, why wouldn't they handle 45 ruger only?

You mopped up with that Jezail.

I sure did! I traded two go points I paid $200 for both for the jezail then traded that for this... So I'm $200 in on this 44mag plus it came with a buscadero holster and a box of 20 soft point hollow points by Winchester.

I'm probably going to sell it and buy one in 45 Colt since these can handle Ruger only loads...

So I picked up my first SAA yesterday! Yes I did have 2 that were cap and ball but those aren't really saa's now are they? Anyway, I traded the Afghani jezail I picked up 2 weeks ago for this.

Eaa bounty hunter circa 1997 44 magnum.

I hate the extended grip so if anyone has a normal grip they would like to trade, let me know. Otherwise I'm just cutting the bottom off this one.

I'm into it for $200. I paid $100 a piece for those hi points.

The evidence tag is because the owner passed (natural causes), family called in a welfare check and the police confiscated the visible firearms in the home.

12
Traded a hi point 40 and hi point 9mm for this. All I know is it has the east India trading company lion stamped on the lock. Looks to be a flint lock converted to cap lock since the hammer and nipple drum all appear to be hand made. The butt pad looks like it's made from camel hoof, there is some gold inlay left in it and it's in desperate need of cleaning. My fiance calls it the "if Dr Seuss and Willy Wonka had a war battle rifle"

For your viewing pleasure I present another addition of the "what tf did you buy now?"

"Brand X" / Re: NAA super companions re-revisited

So if I'm understanding correctly you're talking about using smokeless powder in cap guns. My first thought is to never do that. Then I remembered that I shoot smokeless (cowboy loads) in my conversions. I'm going to have to think 🤔  about this for a while.

When freedom arms (Dick Casull) first designed these, the instruction manual said you could use bullseye powder filled to the bullet ledge. The ATF threatened to reclassify the guns as "modern" so they took the smokeless data out. NAA once did the same thing and got the same reaction from the ATF. There are several tests and youtube videos of these using bullseye and unique in them but nothing about trailboss. I would figure, since you cant overload TB due to its design, coupled with the low pressures TB runs at, it would be "safe" to use but I want to hear someone else's experience before I try it myself and ruin a perfectly good cap gun...again...
