General Discussion / Re: Cap and ball channel

Good one, Six.  J Stone, Cap and Ball Fanatic, is a good guy.  Some of his vids are worth the time.  He’s right out of central casting without trying to be; my idea of a pistolero.  He speaks well too, but doesn’t sound like Michigan.  Yesterday I watched him doing what he called Tutt shots, dualist, with a ‘51 at 75 yards.  He’s not all hat & air, the man can shoot.  I liked his Griswold vid too.

I have a dissenting opinion on AR’s in .223/5.56 with boring black plastic stocks.  For their intended purpose I think they’re ideal.  Never modded one, never scoped one.  They’re not a sporting rifle, they are for something else.  They do have a rather sinister vibe though and those people who make a hobby (fetish) of them tend to be a worrisome crowd.  I take one for a range workout just once in about every two years but shoot black powder revolvers at least once a week.  BP is my own particular fetish and serves real well as a sublimation, too

It’s a pretty good article on this Taylor’s 9mm SSA thing.

https://revolverguy.com/first-shots-taylors-co-tc9-revolver/

It’s nice to read a piece in one of these gun fag rags that’s beyond the functionally illiterate.  There are too many of those that are just gay and redarded.

As to the merits of  9 mm in a SAA  - it’s a profanation.“What the fluff”, exactly.  But given market conditions for factory ammo or their parts,
pieces, and ingredients, it begins to make a lot of sense.

Hard times in the Charleston jail.

Navy Six -  What sizes of pin gauges do you recommend for making.44 and .36 cig paper carts?  The mandrels that I’ve  been using are carved from wood with a slight taper. They work real well, but I’d like to try something perfectly cylindrical.  I use Piettas. Thanks for the help.

General Discussion / Re: Pan Primer
« on: March 17, 2024, 07:38:05 PM »
That’s 2.33 grains per prime.

In speaking with people and reviewing posts from all over, I learn that some guys nearly fill the pan, some half full, others a third full, still more just cover the bottom of the pan.

Pan priming tools generally dispense three grains.

I guess the right amount would be whatever works the best on any given gun.

Do you think that using 4f in the pan would help the delay thing?  That’s what 4f is 4.  AntiqueSledMan is on with that.

Great concept and mostly good pictures.  Photos of your vehicle may not be entirely on point.

So far as your  American English prose goes … well, ah,  there is room for improvement, put it that way.  Much of the text is nearly unreadable.  Go back to composition basics and work forward.  That could take years, but would be time well spent.  If you are serious, you will have an actual proofreader (competent English teacher, grad student, whatever) go over
your recent material and include proofreading marks.  You could then study those and learn the various things in your writings that are going wrong.  The prospective publisher will probably provide that.  Also, there are many really good handbooks for writers available.  Get one and consult it.

The chairman of the English Department, at a pretty good school I once attended, told the class that to become a decent writer one has to be prepared to throw away 90% of what they write.  Harsh - but probably true.

You often refer to Norm and Norman.  When it’s necessary to mention him in the text, use his full name or just his last. Your readers are not having lunch with the guy.

Photography is more your forte. You’re good at that.

Magenta is a good sky, color.  They say it’s midway between red and blue.   Sometimes called fuchsia.   A crepuscular/twilight tone.  We get that here quite a lot. Named after the Battle of Magenta (1859).  Good photo and website.

I had muh sail foam along but there wasn’t much to photograph.  I don’t use paper targets except on a brand new piece and I’ve posted photos of both guns I used and of the range already.  Nothing new on the Western Front with those.  Today I was wackin gong and coffee cans; not much by way of visuals.  If I don’t have a pig or a violent felon handy those will be the preferred targets.

This morning I overcame my own inertial forces by dipping over to the local Sheriff’s range.  A matter of classical Newtonian mechanics and all that.  Took a trusty 1860,  a Browning .22 semi auto and a big thermos of coffee. I was the only one there.  After a couple of hours, three young guys showed up with black rifles.  They were polite and cordial safe shooters and set up for 200 yards.  They shot good.  I overheard them discussing whether Texas might admit California residents   into their National Guard for a little border duty  and thought yeah, good, these guys know the thing.  Don’t you wish everyone did?

The 1860 that I brought was a Pietta from 1997, bought new that year.  It’s the mod with scoop flutes. Twenty-seven years of steady shooting.  It performed flawlessly.  It and the Browning are
clean again, now.  The thermos is empty.  As ever, I had me a ball.

If someone likes or dislikes a post or agrees/disagrees with a statement they should be put to the effort of stating why.  Clapping seals are everywhere, including here sometimes, but making an actual assertion puts that view on the table and gives the rest of us something to work with.

Ruger Single Action Revolvers / Re: .22 LR SA Ruger Bearcat
« on: January 12, 2024, 07:45:50 PM »
“When the missus said she'd get her License to Carry, I started shopping for a .22 single action for her.”

Tinhorn, that seems a very unusual category choice for a ladies carry piece - or for anyone.  Why .22 and why single action?  Sure, something is always better than nothing but that combo could create more problems than it may solve.

So far as the statement goes, it
is true that percussion non-fixed ammo
revolvers are not considered firearms.
But that’s true only for very limited and narrow  purposes.  The categories are so narrow that it’s misleading and inaccurate to to call them ‘not firearms’. Shipping, background checks and
waiting periods are about the only delimiters.

Convicted felons, minors, those adjudicated insane, druggies, some prescription holders, brandishing, carrying (concealed or open, loaded or otherwise), enhancements for use in committing
a crime, negligent entrustment, state storage requirements, domestic violence, red flag laws and on and on.

They are  ‘firearms’ for a lot more purposes than they are considered not to be.  Calling them ‘not firearms’ doesn’t begin to describe the whole reality.
