Lead casting / Re: bag mold? + 69 cal musket ball question

Well, got my Lyman .675 mold today, used in great condition.  Set of lee big handles fit it perfect with screw kit.

79$, can't beat that!

Also got my .490 mold in.

Gonna be a good weekend!

Ok, thanks.  With any luck, I might have the mold next week.  I have a set of lee handles, and I found a Lyman screw kit for single molds for a couple bucks.

Will know if I'm good in a week :)

Hmm, good to hear.  I can get the long throat lee handles for 13$, they say they fit Lyman single hole molds.  And i can get the mold fir 65$.

How do those molds pin on.  My other molds all came assembled.  Is there a  access to the pin on the bottom of the mold?

Question, found an old Lyman single cavity .675 mold.  What handles will fit? Lyman only or? Thanks

That's about the price.  Ok fox traders has a 675 I just found.. Same price :)

The thing I found odd was I had emailed tow about their .680 mold, and they said they didn't recommend it for hot lead?? Wtf??  What are they selling it for? Decoration?

I'd love to get a 67.5, I thought tow had some before, but only a .680 now.

Lead casting / bag mold? + 69 cal musket ball question

1, what's a bag mold.. I've not heard that term before.

2, I'm looking for a mold for roundballs for my 69 cal musket.  Currently buying balls from Dixie, but that's breaking me.  Now that I am casting, I want to get a mold.

The Dixie balls are measuring .675

I wouldn't mind staying with that.

I see tow has a .680 primitive scissor mold with stem cutter.

Anyone got any other sources??

The .675 rams home nicely with my cotton patches, I'd like to keep that trend, and not get into harder loading pressures:)

Thanks

General Discussion / Re: Opinions on Walker powder and loads
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:37:43 AM »
Why load a walker at 30 grains?  I've never loaded mine under 40, and that only during initial testing and now never under 50.

Seems a waste to have a walker or dragoon and load 39

And Crisco is sooooo cheap ;)

I just smelted 80# of xray shielding. Bit had glue and backing paper in many areas.

We smelted outside in a cast iron pot with a propane burner .. Went fast, junk burns off.. Scrape the dross.. Flux a little, dump ash after a while.. No biggie..
