Here she is again. NOT the prettiest but shoots like it was made yesterday not in 1852.

Malaga, Spain went out shopping mid day today.

Car thermometer said 22 Celsius in the direct sunlight, that's 72 Fahrenheit in American.

I don't do cold any more  :cool10:

Some of you know my story, some don't. So here's how my "retirement" played out.

In 2010 I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my back and hips. As well as having A-Fib. This effectively ended my career. I was taken off work and never released to return. So my wife and I made a decision. Our son was just born and our daughter was 6. We were already forking out quite a bit each month for childcare. My wife was making decent money at the time as well, so we decided that I would become a stay at home Dad, and take care of the kids. That saved us a bunch in childcare expenses. I have been doing it ever since and don't regret it one bit. I raised our children instead of a stranger, and they are a million times better off because of it.

In the beginning I did have some obstacles in my mind to overcome. We're born to believe that the man goes off to work every day and is the breadwinner. That was hard for me to overcome. My hobbies helped me tremendously with that. I got heavy into my black powder guns and of all things I also got HEAVY into slot cars. Both kept my brain occupied and challenged. Just what I needed.

So my advice for anyone considering retirement is to definitely get a hobby. One that challenges your brain. Black powder shooting and collecting is number one on the list.

"So my advice for anyone considering retirement is to definitely get a hobby."

Amen to that

Tim,

The way it works here is up to 70 years old your gun licences are renewable every 5 years. Yes you have to have a medical, pretty much the same as a medical to renew a driving licence with every renewal.

70 onwards it is an annual renewal including annual medical. So I just can't be bothered with that.

I renewed my pistol licence in January this year, so I got just a bit more than 4 years left on it, takes me to 68. I'm not gonna bother.

I have to renew my shotgun/.22 rifle/black powder revolver licence in 2 years time, that takes me up to 70 (God willing). Last time.

So up until then I can still shoot clays, black powder and 25 metre bullseye competitions with my 9mm, .22 pistols and .38 revolver.

I'm planning on going to the range and wasting some ammo next week.

Thank you for that, ticking over just nicely at the moment thanks.

No, not giving up shooting just not running over see saws and crawling through Cooper tunnels with loaded guns IPSC style any more  :no_no:

I have 4 years left on my pistol licence, that takes me to 68 (God willing) I won't be renewing it because here at 70 years old it's renewal annually instead of every 5 years.

I just sold my Glock 17 and my Sig Sauer P228  :-[

My shotgun/rifle licence is due for renewal in two years, that'll take me to 70 (again God willing) that'll be the last time too.

Same for my black powder revolver licence, same renewal date as the shotgun/rifle licence.

Then that's it.

So until then I got some ammo to get on with wasting.

We retired 14 years ago. November 2008, finished work on the Monday. A few days later put the dog, a couple of shotguns and the luggage in the car, left Liverpool and arrived in Malaga Spain via France a week later, we took our time stopped off near Barcelona for a couple of days.

First bit of advice do not take a blind bit of notice to anybody who tells you you will be bored in retirement. Trust me if you have interests and hobbies like SHOOTING there are not enough hours in the day !

First few years we wondered how the hell we managed when we were both working full time. The answer to that was that "things" went on the "back burner" in other words "things" didn't get done.

In retirement you have all the time in the world to take care of the NEED to do and all time in the world to do whatever you WANT to do.

I was 50 then and still physically fit and agile. I got a Spanish gun licence and could now buy 9mm Glocks, CZ's pump shotguns with pistol grips and 14" barrels, an AR15.................. all the things nanny state UK banned me from owning in 1997.

It felt like I was living in a shooters paradise, actually it very nearly is. Shooting all day minimum three times week with a great bunch of guys, American, Dutch, British, Russian, Swedish and local Spanish. Outdoor and indoor ranges which were superb facilities, most of the year great weather too.

Competitions all over Southern Spain, one year I got 4th IPSC Open division in the Campeonato (Championship) de Andalucia.

Retirement has been the best time of life for me personally. Shame I just couldn't stay physically 50 years old. None of us can.

We had a proper lockdown during the PLANdemic, my wife never left the house for 3 months solid. Nearly killed us. I ended up ballooning up and developed an arrithmya.

So now at 64 the old physical fitness and agility have gone South so much so that I have now retired from IPSC pistol. Last competition I went to I tripped and went flying with a loaded Glock which departed from my hand, bounced and landed on the deck with the muzzle pointing at my face. So no more.

Retirement..................I can highly recommend it  (7& )l_

In principle Mr Starr's attempts at a "double action" revolver was a great idea. I just don't think he had the technology then to make it actually work. I mean you just wouldn't trust your life to that thing would you ?

Typical British Nanny state mentality.

Pathetic.

"I pretty much ignored him but found out on my arrival in France that the Leftist creep had removed the bill of sale so I couldn't prove ownership."

A Customs Officer STEALING a document ?

I do hope you submitted a written formal complaint to HM Customs ?

Thank you all gentlemen.

Yes I made it to 64 yesterday.

I had a great day thanks. Went to the beach near Marbella. Had a nice lunch in a Chiringuito Paella mixta washed down with a couple of San Miguels.

Later that evening a nice meal in a local Indian restaurant, A chicken Madras and a couple of Cobra Indian beers to compliment, all in all a good day.

Wads, Lubes, Patches, Cleaning Supplies, etc / Re: Cooking spray

I have been using an Olive oil food spray for years. When I have finished at the range I spray my BP revolvers all over, wrap them in a rag and take them home to finish the cleaning job.

Keeps the fouling soft and so much easier to clean off.

Good to see you back.

When I acquired my 1851 Navy I didn't have access to a welding point. I left the cylinder soaking in 3 in 1 penetrating oil for what I think was SIX months.

I put the cylinder in a vice longitude and all six unscrewed like they were put in there the day before. Replaced them with Track of the Wolf stainless ones.

But hey, I was in no hurry.
