Sounds like the plague in Egypt about 27 centuries ago

He gave them hailstones for rain!
Fire mingled with the hail ran along upon the ground.
Fire! Fire! Hailstones for rain!

Guns of Infamy / Fred Burnham
« on: March 02, 2023, 03:14:44 PM »
Fredrick Russel Burnham. He was in Tombstone in Wyatt Earp's day. Scouted for the US Army in the Apache wars.
Pleasant Valley war family feud which had more deaths than Hatfield v McCoy, Johnson Country War (Heaven's Gate), Lincoln Country War (Billy the kid). In Pleasant valley war he was a poor young man but he had lodging in 3 houses, 3 horses, 3 names, 3 different occupations, When things got 'hot' he moved to another town temporarily and became one of his alternate identities.

None of that made him famous. He became famous when he moved to Africa and became a Boer scout in their battles against tribes. Left for Klondike gold rush. Came back when the King of England offered him big money to become the chief scout for the British in the Boer wars (England vs. the Dutch Boers). Received the DSO from the King.

Baden Powell, who founded the boy scouts, served as a scout under Burnham in Africa and used his attire for the Boy Scout uniform in England.

Wouldn't you know his wife's property turned up oil wells and he became an oil and airline tycoon and became a regular in Roosevelt's cabinet (largely because Teddy enjoyed his stories of the old days).

Through it all he carried the same Remington 1875 which he bought as a youngster in Arizona. Somewhere along the way, the grips became hippo ivory.

Pocket Models / Re: Hickock45 shoots original 1849
« on: September 28, 2020, 08:05:09 PM »
The only reason I posted this more recent video is that it is also an original 1849 Colt Pocket Revolver. But it is a 6 shooter. 6! I did not know Colt made what we call a model 1849 that shot 6 rounds.

this was the Indian made gun, it sparked and shoots every time but it didn't look good, too glossy and shiny.

It is now aged to look older and look as good as it shoots.

Antique Firearms Assembly/Disassembly: David Chicoine.
The Amazon book Look Inside feature always shows a few preview pages.
As luck would have it, the Paterson chapter is there on the free preview.

Patersons / Do the Paterson loading tools ever break or wear out?
« on: September 08, 2020, 02:15:02 PM »
Sourdough posted thread on Paterson availability, and in July a message therein stated they went back in stock at EMF.
So, when I opened the EMF/Pietta box there were 2 loading tools inside instead of just 1.

I don't know if I am going to need two, won't need 2 if they never break or need replacement. They cost a lot to buy them separate.

Patersons / Re: Patersons For Sale
« on: August 16, 2020, 03:27:20 AM »
E M F has new Patersons up for sale, right now August  2020.
I bought one 2 days ago. I  don't know if Pietta will ever resume  making these. These are some which EMF had held back for older preorders who backed out. But they put up these last ones now, (according to what their sales person told me on the phone when I finalized the purchase).
