Navy Models / Re: 1851 navy .44 sheriff Opinion?

I had the occasion to buy this Pietta fantasy gun from Midway a ittle while back when it was on sale. I have yet to shoot it. I was taken by its compact size and .44 caliber.
It is the first Pietta I have ever purchased. I am not a fan of the external production marks and somewhat rough finish, but the timing and lockup are perfect. Now just how to figure out how to load it...😂

Happy Indrpendace Day!

Awesome rifle but he could have made the video better by showing the full cylinder with conicals.

Yeah, that would have been nice.
I thought that casting with an original Colt mold made for that rifle was pretty cool in itself.
He has another video where he rehabs an old 1860 Army and shoot it as well. Interesting gunsmith work.

I had planned on using a cheater bar like Mike Ventuino uses on his.
Goin' to the range today AZ6Gun?  :cowboypistol:
I wouldn't shoot a gun with a short loading lever without using the Slixhand bar. Talk about saving my hand!

Navy Models / Re: Is there a shoulder stock for 1861 Navies?
« on: May 15, 2023, 07:00:00 PM »
I wound up cutting down the brass frame to accomodate the new Navy. Some judicious filing of the cuts on the frame of the revolver were necessary to make it fit, as well as some filing of the stock retention screw  to raise it up for the Navy grip. The stock still accomodates the old 1860 Army, so I achieved what I wanted.
All's well that ends well!

Thanks again for everyone's input.

I looked at the Taylor 1861 w/shoulder stock for sale on Gunbroker. It is the same as my shoulder stock manufactured for the 1860 Army,  but modified to fit the Navy. I could do this myself (and actually cut the angles better!) but it would then be just a Navy stock.I'll consider it.

Thanks everyone for your input!

From the links Zulch provided, they do appear to exist if you're lucky enough to find one. That last listing was for an 1851 with stock but the photo shows an 1860. I hope you find one, they look pretty nice.

Thanks Marshal Will, but the skeleton stock mates to an extended hammer screw, and requires the removal of the stock retention screws found on the sides of the frame, leaving holes.
It really doesn't 'fit' Colt percussion guns cut for shoulder stocks.

Navy Models / Is there a shoulder stock for 1861 Navies?

I recently bought a Uberti 1861 Navy cut for a shoulder stock with the intention of using it with my old Uberti 1860 Army shoulder stock.
Alas! It does not fit as the Navy grip is to short to engage the backstrap lug.
Does anyone know if there is a Navy-sized shoulder stock?

Thanks in advance!

Typical British Nanny state mentality.

Pathetic.

"I pretty much ignored him but found out on my arrival in France that the Leftist creep had removed the bill of sale so I couldn't prove ownership."

A Customs Officer STEALING a document ?

I do hope you submitted a written formal complaint to HM Customs ?

Unfortunately I did not. I was young, and was simply focused on getting my revolver out of the hands of the French Custom officials. I recal how they would, with wide eyes, put tbeir fingers in the muzzle, astonished at the size of the .45 and talk of "le cowboy" 😂
I used to shoot it at the police range in Monaco. It would invariably stop all shooting, then bring laughter from the cops, and then silence when they saw the compact groups made with the gun at 25 meters. I could outscore the majority of those cops with the Ruger, much to their dismay, using 20grs of 3fg, cornmeal filler, and a greased felt wad.

I bought my stainless ROA at the gun shop of Thomas Bland in London in 1975. It was one of the first ones manufactured in stainless steel. Even then restrictions on all handguns were severe in England, and I had to have the pistol transported to the airport where I was allowed to take it out of the country on my trip to France. The English customs officer who inspected the pistol before releasing it to me gave me a lecture on how guns were evil, they were only good for killing, and why would I want one? I pretty much ignored him but found out on my arrival in France that the Leftist creep had removed the bill of sale so I couldn't prove ownership.
French customs held the gun until I could get a replacement bill of sale from Thomas Bland.
I still have the gun, put some srag grips on her. Interesting that it has British proof marks on it like a London Colt.

Frenchy, did that Marauder go back for an exchange, refund?

It went back for a refund. Fun as it was when it was working, it was not fun when it was not working.
I still have the .25 Benjamin Marauder standard bolt action. It shoots groups like you would expect from a pcp air rifle. Here is a target of 8 shots each at 25 yrds, testing 2 different weights of pellets. I'm happy with it.

It seems that if 1 Army was a good idea … acquiring a second for a complete brace would be a great idea
You know , zombie apocalypse etc … thoughts ? Probably a question Dave can answer.,.
Take this man's advice.

Update 11/12:
After shooting over 1500 pellets through the Benjamin Marauder semi-auto .22, I compiled enough problems with the operation of the action and accuracy issues to warrant sending the gun back. When the gun works, it is a lot of fun to shoot. However I have come to the conclusion that it is not quite ready for prime time.

Looks like maybe the Nevada side of Tahoe?? Been there once, a long time ago and it seemed the Nevada side was much more picturesque than the Cali side?
I would agree with you Zulch. The Nevada side is less developed as it has the State Park on the  north. Then you have South Lake Tahoe which looks like a mini Las Vegas.
I have been reading Mark Twain's 'Roughing It' afyer many decades.. He devotes some time to his exploration of Lake Tahoe with a friend in the 1860s. It was a remote curiosity at the time. They camped around it for weeks, and explored it with a row boat when it was a completely undeveloped wilderness. Mark Twain also describes how he inadvertantly started a forest fire that forced them onto the lake in their boat while it raged and finally burned  over the mountain and out of sight. He wouldn't recognize the place today, lol.
