Powder Horns & Flasks / Re: my collection of flasks

I just don't see a flask from 100 years ago being made to look old. I'm not knocking the India made flasks. They're made on the original equipment so you'd think they'd be the same quality or at least close to it.

The second one is by a well known British maker: Dixon & sons. It also bears an adjustable spout., that one measured in drams, from 2 to 2 3/4. The surface is not smooth as most flasks, but irregular, as if to give it an older look.

You probably already know this but somebody in India bought the Dixon & Sons and I think Hawksley tooling in the 1960's and started making flasks complete with original markings.

Brass and Other Cartridge Casings / Re: Crossen Cartridge Molds

Interesting concept but I thought making paper cartridges was tedious. I would think they would be pretty fragile and you'd have to keep them in some kind of protective container like the wooden cartridge box or something similar.

Who does that? Maybe they bought them for the tins way back when.

 Yesterday I opened an ammo box I haven't opened in 6 years and found five more tins of CCI #10's. <={

I suppose you're giving US measure. The British is a wee bit lower. I'm sticking out my neck here, but I think that for Ringo's spouts, some are in drams (the English?), some in grammes (the French?) and maybe some in grains. Probably the spouts graded 65 to 80 are grains, the spouts graded 8 to 9 to 10 are grammes.
Beautifully complicated.

Yes U.S. measure altho I believe the English used grains in the 19th century.

Those are nice. I don't have any original or repros. Len, a dram is about 27.5 grains. You still see dram equivalent on boxes of shotgun shells.

Crazy Crow is a good place too.   I used to get catalogs from them but they may have quit.   Everything is online now.  I haven't bought anything there for years so they may have dropped me from the list.

Some of their stuff is good, some of it's crap. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Did you get that sheath from a girl named Cheyenne Tremblay?
She does some pretty good stuff at reasonable prices.

I got it from Crazy Crow.

I've been looking for accessories to go with my flintlock and came across this beaded neck knife sheath at a reasonable price. It beats the hell out of the homemade sheath I've been using. The knife is the first one I ever made and didn't really know what I was doing but it's a great patch knife. I made it out of a circle saw blade a long time ago. That's not rust on the blade it's some kind of stain. It will come off. Not that rust bothers me. Most of the knives I've rehafted have been rusty relics. Now that I have this snazzy sheath I may cut it down and add a poured pewter butt cap.

I recently got these modern made spear points. I was intending to make a neck/patch knife out of one but they're too big and bulky. I can't find any original points that look exactly like them. They still look cool tho. I've got a couple of pieces of elk antler that will make good handles. Whacha think? Any other ideas on what to do with them?

Thanks BC and Z. I made it years ago but it just had rough wood scales. I put the antler and pewter on it I guess about 8 or 9 years ago.

Hawg, The pewter is nice. Did you have to melt the pewter and make a mold or how/what did you do?

I wrapped brown paper around it and taped it down tight then poured the melted pewter in and filed it off smooth. It could use some more smoothing but if I haven't done it by now I probably won't. (7+"
