Hello all-
I recently found this website while looking to get some answers for my cap-sucking 1862 Police Ubertis. The information, attitude, and humor displayed agreed with me, so I hitched on. I am on a number of other sites under my OldFrenchy moniker.
I am in my later sixties, and I live in San Diego. I have been involved with BP shooting since I was 15 when I was living in France where one could not purchase a single shot .22 without extensive permits, but one could purchase an 1858 .44 Remington over the counter, no questions asked. My tutor was the book Sixguns by Keith. I cast and reload for all of my firearms.
In the intervening time I have acquired a few different models of percussion revolvers, mostly Ubertis for the historical accuracy.
I look forward to the informed and humorous discussions that brought me here in the first place.

Glad to have you on board, Old Frenchy! (you aren't the guy that invented French's Mustard, by chance? No? Hmm...too bad!) )lI
Anyway glad you found your way here and hope you will call it your new home. As for them other forums, bah. Who needs them?
As to your mentioning "cap-sucking Colts"...it has indeed been discussed at great length here, with various and sundry "fixes" ranging from changing nipples (cones) to filling in the hammer grooves with all sorts of things imaginable ranging from JB Weld, to epoxy, to silver solder. My personal opinion is that the only "real" fix is installing both a cap rake and an action shield. Mine were done by Mike Brackett (45 Dragoon) of Goon's Gun Works fame (a very active member here) and they perform flawlessly. If you are interested I can fill in more details.
As far as the humor goes, well...we can't help ourselves. It goes with the territory.
Again, a warm welcome and hope to see much participation from you in the near future!

A warm welcome from Wisconsin Frenchy. We do like pictures, even if we have seen all manner of firearms; we haven't seen yours!

Thank you but nothing over which to be jealous. That is just 50 years of collecting.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
There were requests to see some of my swag. I couldn't get it all out (I have a nice early stainless ROA that I purchased in London back in the seventies, for example) but I corralled most of them. I had the 1860 Army (Uberti) cut down in the eighties. It's about 40 years old, thousands of rounds through it, still tight as a top and knocks down the plates with ease. I prefer Ubertis, always have. I don't shoot my Colts.
