Okay, just for fun. I thought this might be a little fun for the movie lovers out there. Find an obscure picture from a movie that you've seen and post it. One picture, only one. Make it as difficult or as easy as you like. Be as sneaky as you want in your description of the picture that you choose. Make it hard to figure out. It could be simply a snipped shot of a revolver or flinter or a hat, or whatever picture you want to post from any given "CLEAN" non pornographic film.
Question: What movie is this picture taken from? Secondly, this picture also reveals something a little more interesting to me as well L@J Keep in mind, I am being very abstract here.
-
This is taken from Circle of Iron. As for the abstract part of the question, I being of practical mind cannot answer. (*@
-
Ringo. You guessed it. As far as the abstract goes. Who is the old guy? Recognize him from one of our favorite movies? A western? He had a 4 letter name in the western 😁👍 maybe abstract wasn’t the best choice of words
-
Eli Wallach co-starred as Tuco in The good, the bad and the ugly.
I loved him as Calvera in The Magnificent Seven (one of very best movies ever).
-
Right again!! Awesome actor👍👍
-
Name that movie.
-
Winchester '73?
-
Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid.
-
Yes, Hawg. James Coburn in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
-
You got it Hawg and Ringo.😁👍👍
-
Up next Henry Fonda.
-
My name is Nobody (il miu nome e Nessuno). Henry Fonda as Jack Beauregard. As much as I love and respect Henry Fonda, I never understood why he agreed to share the bill with Terence Hill.
-
From a movie I watched last night: (https://i54.servimg.com/u/f54/19/41/35/25/5111to10.jpg)

actor looks like gary cooper , 'man of the west' is my guess :old_man:

Right again Ringo. Man you know your movies!! The one you posted is a stumper. The first thought I had was Big Country but I was thinking the guy looks nothing like Peck. I will have to mull it over. :icon_scratch:
-

Better guess than me Baron...I was thinking Randolph Scott

I think the hat is wrong for Man of the West?

Terence Hill reminds me of Max Baer (Jethro Bodine) in the face anyway.

Okay Ringo, the guy reminds me of Jimmy Stewart or possibly Randolph Scott. Am I warm?
-
You're right on Gary Cooper, Baron. One of the greatest actors of all time. Had he only played in High Noon, he would be forever remembered. Lckily for us, he made numerous other movies, almost each one being a classic.
I must admit the movie might be classified as obscure, although Richard Widmark (another favorite of mine) co-stars.
-
Okay, awesome Baron. You were correct sir. Now up next, a B movie and obscure to some? Maybe not:

I too, like Widmark Ringo. :-* Was the movie "Garden of Evil"??
-
The movie was written and directed by James Landis, and stars Arch Hall Jr. as the main character, who gives its name to the film.

Okay, so this is Lee Van Cleef alright, but who is facing him there, and what's the name of the movie ?
I must admit Lee VanCleef starred in a great many spaghetti westerns, most of which are not top notch, but this one may be a little bit better than most.
-
Ringo, I would be guessing at this point. I had no idea that he did so many spaghetti westerns . Gee whiz!!! He was a busy man. Didn’t realize his first movie appearance was High Noon either. I need schooling’😫
-
Okay, so one hint : the actor facing him is Giuliano Gemma, who once starred as Captain Montgomery Brown aka Ringo, in Ducio Tessari's The return of Ringo, number 10 in Quentin Tarantino's Top 20 favorite Spaghetti Westerns. I must add that I took my name from this movie, the first spaghetti western I ever saw.
Now, the question remains: what is the title of the movie from which I took the picture?

At least I got one thing right. I suspected that your handle was based on Johnny Ringo. Woo hoo. I'm real bright huh? HAHAHAHA.. Anyway. It's not fair because you gave me enough information to hunt the movie up on the internet but I will see if this is correct. "Day of Anger"? Now if this is true I simply must see this one and other Van Cleef movies
-
Day of anger, you're right Zulch. Number 7 in Quentin Tarantino's Top 20 favorite Spaghetti Westerns.

Ringo, well it wasn't hard once you gave me a hint. Thank you though. You are great at this. I thought I knew a lot about various movies. HAHAHAHA. i can't wait to try another. Ringo, I never dreamed you would've guessed" the Sadist" movie!!! I saw that late night on TCM one night on a Saturday. I bought the DVD afterward. You know his dad Arch Hall Sr. was a bit actor that did play in some westerns back in the day. I actually sent Arch Hall Jr. an email and he actually replied. I merely told him what a great movies that was. My favorite line in that movie is "too bad,...... I was beginning to like that ol' codger".
-
The Sadist was not easy, as it did not make a great impact in France at least, but it's all a matter of luck...
Here's a last one for today! A western again, but not a spaghetti this time:
I guess you will know who is the main male actor, but what movie is it?
-
Gregory Peck/only the valiant?
-
Gregory Peck, yes.
Only the valiant, yes ! +]P
How did you find that one so fast?
-
I had seen that one a few times in my lifetime. I could clearly see Peck with the girl. I kept racking my brain and it finally came to me. Got lucky on that one. HAHAHAHA. Thanks for a simpler one Ringo.

i ended up in a town in California that had done a lot of filming long before i got there as a kid.
An actor Ray " CRASH " Corrigan had a film set shooting site an they turned it into a family entertainment place before Disney opened his doors in Anaheim. Bob Hope ended up owning it for a few years then it shut down . Watching all those westerns from the 30s to present that were filmed there was most interesting. All the memorabilia was sent to a restuarant an on display in Thousand Oaks CALI
a lot of scenes were shot there from Rin Tin Tin , F Troop .
there are still 2 other operational complex sets now - a set of New York City streets, other one is western setting,
opening scene from Superman TV series was shot on a local avenue - opening scene announcer says more powerful than a locomotive - "shows a train passing by".
Gunsmoke was shot in Thousand Oaks ( not DODGE ), it is used as an open space park hiking complex now.
most interesting Jack Palance ( SHANE & CITY SLICKERS) lived around the corner from my growing up place
-
Great story Baron!! Sounds like you saw a lot of neat stuff😁

Here's one for y'all.

Stuart Whitman in the background helped me. Rio Conchos by Gordon Douglas.
-
(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/34/1c/28/341c2820b69cb3e8ad76a90613ad63ea.jpg)
This is obviously Charles Bronson leading the mob. He was the villain in this 1963 movie. Now, what was the movie, and who were the main characters (all four of them) ? Another hint: this to me is more a parody than a true western. L@J

Ol'Blue Eyes and Dino all right! The lady who played in a Bond movie is Ursula Andress, and the last one (but by no means least) is Anita Ekberg.

In my opinion, not Clint's best one. I can't tell why, but I just don't really like it.

Yes! ...and by far... Mind you, I am not very fond of Two Mules for Sister Sara, in which he wears the same hat. That maybe the reason why... ;)

That was fast! You must be either an Eastwood fan or a Siegel fan, or both ;

Eastwood for sure. Geraldine Page too. :cowboypistol:

Well then, another one now, but not starring Eastwood or Page, and not directed by Don SIegel...

Joe Kidd. A good one too... :)

Take your time. I've got to go shopping... :( Back in a couple hours.

One first hint: the actor on that picture is Eduardo Fajardo.

Ringo, I cheated as I have never seen that movie. Is it Django?

Yes it is, Zulch. Now you know you have to watch it.

Yes Hawg, that's the one! One hint: Gregory Peck stars along with Joan Collins.
Now, I have to say that Joan Collins, with all her merits, really does not look the part shes plays in that movie.
-
Well Ringo, I am stumped and I shan't cheat. I remember a movie with him and Jennifer Jones but not Ms. Collins :icon_scratch:
-
Well Ringo, I am stumped and I shan't cheat. I remember a movie with him and Jennifer Jones but not Ms. Collins :icon_scratch:
Peck has a real long filmography, and westerns are not scarce in it. This one was shot by Henry King and released in 1953 under the title The Bravados. Stephen Boyd and Andrew Duggan are among the cast too. Joe Derita is the character wearing a bowling hat on the picture. He was one of the Three Stooges.

Ringo, Oh wow, I now vaguely remember and actually think I've seen it. I need to check that movie out to make sure that I've seen it or not. Also, I remember a Three Stooges guy name Joe Besser? Neither he nor Derita nor Shemp Howard could hold a candle to Curly.

I think so too Ringo. I watched the newer one with Russel Crowe last night for the first time (7+" I'm kind of slow about doing things. It was fairly close to the original storyline. A lot more graphic of course.

What movie is this image taken from? L@J

I don't know who are these two gentlemen. I think I can even say I never saw them before. So you're right if you infer I have no idea what the movie is. All I can say is it must be a western... :icon_scratch:

Larry Blyden and Arch Johnson and to be fair it’s not a movie. It’s an episode in a very famous tv show.

Cowboy Kitsch? With Elvis Dustoff and Murry Spielman?
-
Larry Blyden and Arch Johnson and to be fair it’s not a movie. It’s an episode in a very famous tv show.

I am. But I guess maybe I haven't seen all the episodes as that one doesn't ring a bell.

Gee whiz. :icon_scratch: comment allez-vous? I'm sorry Ringo. I did not know you live in France. Okay, the tv show was Twilight Zone, I think you guys maybe had that show right? The title of this episode was/is "Showdown with Rance McGrew" Larry Blyden played an actor, playing the role of Jesse James. Arch Johnson (Left) in picture played Jesse James returning from the dead to tell this guy to stop embarrassing the name of Jesse James with his poor acting skills. I thought Capt. I can recommend the one I watched last night. You certainly will know the title by the pictures of the main characters:

Well, I am not sure I want to see Bob Dylan acting, for one, and I remember the movie got a lot of bad review when it came out. That was a long time ago, but it stuck to me.
Now, I just checked the Wikipedia page and read that Peckinpah (a great director, by the way) eventually had his own version released in 1988 (15 years after the movie first hit the theaters). So maybe I should check it up after all.

One of my all time favorites! It's only a cartoon, but the attire was all period correct. The Colt pistols had the extractor tube on the wrong side in a few scenes. But I let that slide. Very well done and a must see!

You got it Ringo!! HAHAHAHAHAHA. Such an interesting movie and the visuals were frightening at times. The scene where Shelly Winters body is in the car at the bottom of the river for example.

Was this possibly a little more obscure? More hints please. i do not recognize the scene. Trying to decide who these actors are. They seem vaguely familiar.

One of them is definitely a star in his own right.
The other (the bearded one) is very well known too, and this is his second western movie.
Here is another picture from the same movie:

I did actually think Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford initially but wasn't quite sure. The second photo gave me no doubt.
The movie is "the Frisco Kid" but I cheated on that because I have never seen that one.
-
Exact! You can give it a watch. It's not a great movie, but Gene Wilder being his usual self, you will be entertained during the two hours it lasts. I was surprised to see that Harrisson Ford had already starred in Star Wars before he played in this Frisco Kid.
-
Thanks Ringo, I will give it a watch. I can't for the life of me ever remember seeing it coming out in theaters? Guess I've led a sheltered life. HAHAHAHA

This picture looks familiar doesn't it? But now, what's the title of the movie?
&*J

The guy sort of reminds me of Robert Horton ??
-
Come on! You know better than this...
Take another look.

Wasn’t easy for me🥴

-
Yet another movie? Movie name? Name the guns too. :usa-flag-89:
Movie Name: The Legend of Ben Hall
-
Dunno the movie or the top gun but the other one is a Tranter
-
Thanks Hawg on the gun type. A Tranter? So who made the Tranter? European?
Maybe Ringo, when he comes back🤔 can name the movie.
-
Okay, here is a character actor which appeared in this spaghetti western? Name the movie. One clue, this guy played opposite an actor whose name in the movie was Cat.
-
Is that Eli?
-
Negative that Capt. Kirk. Not as well known as Eli
-
Thanks Hawg on the gun type. A Tranter? So who made the Tranter? European?
Maybe Ringo, when he comes back🤔 can name the movie.
The Tranter was a British revolver, used during the Civil War among others by Jeb Stuart, and by the world famous detective Sherlock Holmes.
-
Would the movie be True History of the Kelly Gang? It uses a Tranter and many other types of cap and ball weapons.
-
Okay, here is a character actor which appeared in this spaghetti western? Name the movie. One clue, this guy played opposite an actor whose name in the movie was Cat.
Frank Wolff asBill San Antonio, plays opposite Terence Hill, as Cat Stevens (no relation with the singer songwriter) in God forgives, I don't.
I had to dig deep to remember this one.
-

Yet another movie? Movie name? :usa-flag-89:
Ringo, I never answered this one. The title of this movie is: The Legend of Ben Hall
It is a very good movie with a lot of action and OLD GUNS. Free on YouTube.
Apparently a true story with setting in Australia if anyone really cares (7+"

I can't tell about the Tranter but the Colt is a prop gun made by Denix. Look at the cylinder notches.

Hawg, I'm sorry I failed to reply. So the Colt is a prop gun? The cylinder notches are the tell tale? Denix? Are they still around? Thanks for pointing that out. I have much to learn. I do see the notches and I must say they aren't normal looking. Why would they make them like that do you think?
-
Okay Ringo, Where are you? It's time and long overdue for you to post a stumper of a movie C'mon now, give it up :cowboypistol:

Hey Hey!! It's Ringo!! Glad to hear back from you. :-) Okay, This is a shot in the dark. The guy looks like Danny Kaye, the female? I wasn't sure. Betty Grable? naaaaaa... I searched based on the idea that this is Danny Kaye. He apparently only made 4 movies in Black and White. Not really any "western themed" titles. :icon_scratch: I also realize that the picture may be a publicity photo.
I will guess it's name "I am an American"??? I must admit you throw a mean curve ball on your movie selections. WAIT!!! AHHHH HAAAAA!!!! After further investigation??? The lady is Virginia Mayo and the movie is actually entitled "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" which was in color and the photo you posted was/is a B&W Publicity photo! (7+" :cowboypistol: You are a bit sneaky?? LOL
-
Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo in The secret life of Walter Mitty, indeed!
I could have used this picture:
but it would have made it a bit too easy... ;) Anyway, it did not take you long to catch that curve ball and score. :)
What about that one, now?
I am sure you will know the starring actors' names and the title of the movie... :toast:
-
Ringo!! An easy one thank you!! Bob Hope “Paleface”

The great Sioux massacre! You got it right, gentlemen.
Your turn, then... *k>
-
Baron ? Dave Shooter? You heard the Ringo, he’s callin ya out! Make the movie a hard one to guess :usa-flag-89:
-
Okay fellas. Here's a real HARD one for you. So hard that I don't even know the name of it or who was in it. The only information that I can recall about the movie is that I think it may have been the mid 1970's and possibly made for television release. The scene that I remember is this: there was a guy chasing down the bad guy. For some reason he was unable to catch up with him. He pulls out this BIG rifle, maybe he gets into a kneeling position, he takes aim at the rider way way off in the distance, he fires the shot, there are a few moments and I recall that you could actually hear the projectile travelling, (gotta love the movies huh?) The scene cuts to the rider, not a close up, then it hits the rider. Some of the scenes may have been slow motion I don't remember. The guy that shot the rifle may have had another person with him. Okay, that's it. I know this was a movie but I can't for the life of me remember anymore about it but it made an impression on me. So, anyone out there remember any movie that may have had that scene in it? It was not Gus in Lonesome Dove. I know that already. I do not believe it was Quigley Down Under because of the time it was released in 1990. Oh yes, one other thing, the bad guy on horseback may have been close to crossing a border??? so the rifle was necessary to prevent the guy from getting away for good. Vague memories on my part. I hope someone can help this old guy remember. Thanks.
-
I had figured Gus or Quigley. You're sure it was not an Indian on horseback?
-
That could be any one of two dozen movies. (7+"
-
I had figured Gus or Quigley. You're sure it was not an Indian on horseback?
Cap, Not sure but don't believe so

Yeah, wouldn't be that one. I'm sure there are a lot of movies that mirror that same type scene. Thanks Ringo.
-
As noone seems to pick up the glove, here is another, which I just watched last night. The starring actor is one of my all times favorites. You won't be surprised that he's not on the attached picture. L@J
-
Hmmmmm 🤔 oh boy. Here we go again . A stumper. LOL😂
-
Here's another picture from the same movie. Hope it helps... :P
-
No idea. :nocomment:

Maybe this one will me more helpful, then. :innocent:

Yes! Very helpful in that fact that upon viewing that last scene I'm 100% positive I've never seen this movie!
-
If you ever have a spare couple of hours, don't hesitate to give it a try. You'll easily find it on Youtube.
-
Well, it seems like noone has ever seen Fury At Furnace Creek, starring Victor Mature.
-
Dangit, I was just about to say that. L@J
-
I have not seen that one either Cap. Ringo, you are king of the hill!! Hawg, day late and a dollar short. Wish you had of posted sooner😂

I'm guessing that was a cop or detective show? I never got into those too much.
-
Sorry to have been silent so long. :-[
In order to make up with it, here's a picture from a movie I watched last night. OK, it's Gregory Peck, and he's holding a Colt revolver. So, what is the title of the movie? L@J
-
Ringo!??? Where have you been? Sure have missed hearing from you. Welcome back. :cowboypistol:
Okay, I'm going to say that movie is "Duel in the Sun"?? I have a feeling I'm wrong as he is not wearing a kerchief round his neck :icon_scratch:
and he looks older in that picture,
-
Thanks for the kind words, Zulch.
This is not from Duel in the sun. It was released in 1971, and co-starred Dawn Lyn.
Maybe that picture will help you a little.
-

Ringo, I had to look that one up. "Shootout" never heard of that one. Is it a fairly good movie? Looks good from your picture. (7&
-
Sorry I had not seen your answer. Yes, it's Shootout. It's not bad, with an unusual twist in the little girl's character. The end is very predictable, but the rest is okay.
-
What's the best Peck western in your opinion?
-
Hard to answer to that question. I can't pretend I've seen them all. The Gunfighter might be it though.

Thank you Ringo, I still have not watched that one. I need to do that this week. :cowboypistol: That's my movie for the week.

For some reason I haven't seen very many peck movies. The first one that comes to mind is How The West Was Won. I pick that one :usa-flag-89:

I agree Sooty :-*

I did a Gregory Peck movie surch, wow he has made a lot of popular movies! I will add him to my movie list and start with the westerns first. THANKS (7&
-
I've aways liked "The Big Country".... with a quite young Charleton Heston and Chuck Connors...among others.
-
Yes Sooty, I too had no idea he had so many western movies under his belt.
-
I've aways liked "The Big Country".... with a quite young Charleton Heston and Chuck Connors...among others.
Mick, howdy. You are absolutely right. Very good movie and the cinematography captured the expansiveness of the setting. I need to watch again soon. The score was fantastic as well👍👍
-
Big Country was excellent!
-
I've never seen Big Country. I will watch it tonight. Thanks for the tip.

:-* (7& Hawg got it!! I don't remember him never not having facial hair of some sorts. I would not have known who that was. :icon_scratch:
-
Saw it at the drive in with my girlfriend when it came out. She was going apepoop over him. Ticked me off so much I didn't even want to make out with her because I knew she would have been thinking about him. (7+"
-
Ringo, was that "the Badlanders" film?
Yes indeed ! Alan Ladd and Ernest Borgnine starred in that 1958 movie directed by Delmer Daves.
I never thought you would find it on that picture only. :jawdrop1:
-
That's one I actually remember seeing Ringo. (7+" For once, I was correct in guessing.
-
Name the movie.
-
I cheated. Looks like a good movie. Wonm't name it do to cheating.
-
I would say "les vacances de Monsieur Hulot", a true classic!
-
I cheated. Looks like a good movie. Wonm't name it do to cheating.
Wow Clyde? Now I need educating here. Is there an image recognition app that you used to find out info on the movie based on a single unidentified image? :icon_scratch:
-
I would say "les vacances de Monsieur Hulot", a true classic!
I knew you would have no problem identifying this one Ringo :cowboypistol: I've watched Jacques Tati for years and have seen this one more than 15 times. A man who could tell a story in silence or should I say quietly? I understand there is a monument in his honor at that very beach in which the movie was shot? The soundtrack to that movie is so nice and makes me happy when I hear it. I actually found a vinyl record that had themes from several of his movies. Hard to find that one. I bought it from someone in Canada.

What Hawg said, right click and search. I was thinking Casa Blanca, but my gut said I was wrong, so I cheated.

Thanks Hawg and Clyde..Sheesh...I am a dunderhead. :icon_scratch:
