I like all of those. I'm leaning towards tying it to the bag strap.

I finished the powder measure except for the leather thong. I still have to figure out what I'm going to attach it to and where I'm going to attach it. I thought about staining it but then remembered antler tips are always white. I'm still undecided on adding some color to the grooves. Yes mistakes were made. The most garish one is my original pilot hole I broke the drill bit off in it but the knot on the leather thong will hide it. This may not seem to be a big deal to many but it is for me.

I had a similar go with experimenting about a year ago, after Rick's thread. Shortly thereafter I bought 1000 caps from Cabelas.

I've got about that many.

Hawg,  that's exactly my problem.  I'm tired of screwing with them.  Same thing happened to me with paper cartridges.

Yeah, me too. I sold my 63 Sharps because I wasn't using it because I got tired of making cartridges for it and they were easy to make.

I was getting 3-4 out of 6 with Pyrodex. I feel like I could have improved it but I got tired of fooling with them.

I'd make them out of plastic ring caps before I'd go to the trouble of punching out aluminum ones.

I looked at them before I went to the gun shop yesterday.   Only thing holding me back is the time to build it.   I don't want or need more projects.
Your Kibler kit is what made me decide to look for a flintlock.   I've never had a flintlock rifle.

They's is fun. I wish I had gotten one years ago.

Hawg, Is it just me or is there a lot of background noise in the video? I can barely hear what he is saying? :icon_scratch:

He's in his shop at the beginning. It gets a little quieter when he's in his office.

Jim is getting closer to getting a fowler kit on the market.

I went to a nearby gun shop to look for a flintlock rifle.
No luck.   Only one that wasn't junk.   It had a $14,000 dollar price tag.

Get a Kibler Woodsrunner. If I can build one anybody can. About 1,300.00 delivered and it's historically correct.

I dug through my stash of antler and I'm working on a 90 grain powder measure. I also have some canvas duck in the wash. I'll cut it into strips later and lube them up. Progress so far but by no means done.

The Lyman is a pretty good representation of a plains rifle for a production gun. I could live with it.

I've had other things in the past that did not do what they were supposed to? Information wasn't readily available like it is today so I understand that completely. Just glad you are happy with the rifle. Were the older CVA's any different than today's CVAs or have they stayed the same? What was it about the CVA rifles that you did not like? just curious.

CVA never made anything. They're importers. All they import now are inlines. Traditions sells almost the same guns as CVA did.  I don't like them because they look nothing like the guns they're touted to be. I have a CVA Hawken but I've only fired it once and that's because it was loaded when I got it. For what it's worth it was loaded with Pyrodex for at least 12 years in a closet in a laundry room right next to the water heater. I capped it and it fired like it's supposed to. His powder measure was set at 90 grains and it felt like 90 grains when it went off.

Hawg, is this Kibbler your first flintlock? I can't remember. After all is said and done are you pleased with the rifle and outcome overall?

I had one when I was 13. It was a nice looking maple stocked Kentucky in .45 caliber but it didn't spark worth a crap. I didn't know jack about them except for what I saw on TV and probably just needed a new flint. I thought it was a POS and it turned me off of flintlocks for many, many years. I'm very pleased with it. I've been wanting one for a long time but don't like the look of the CVA's/Traditions etc and a Pedersoli was always too much. Now that it's just me my needs are few and I don't eat much and I wanted one really good flintlock before I die.
