Ruger Bisley - 1st outing
« on: May 18, 2015, 03:13:53 PM »
And an eye opening day it was...

All targets shot at 15 yards with the barrel resting on my range box.

1st target - New Winchester brass, Acme Bullet 255gr. lswc over 5.8 of Trail Boss with a Winchester LP primer

The gun hated them. After shooting a couple 3 round groups that were both over six inches, I just popped a bunch off, all targeting the bullseye. They were all over the map. Frankly, none of my .45 Colts like this bullet, and I won't order any more of them.

Switched to the same load, except for a Bear Creek 255gr. LRNFP bullet. This is the favorite load of all my other .45 Colts.

1st group was ok, but nowhere near where I was aiming, which was the large red dot in the lower left corner. Adjustable sights, so not a real problem, right?

Second group, same aim-point. Ok, don't like the way this is shaping up. Nowhere close to the original group, though aiming the same, and group is 3"+.

Ok, running low on time, so switched to new Winchester brass, Winchester LP primer, 6.0 of Trail Boss capped by a 205 gr. Bear Creek LRNFP bullet. None of my other pistols are more than ok with this load.

Group 3 aim-point was large red dot in lower right corner. Call it 1-1/4" group 2" high. That can be dealt with.

Group 4. Same load, aim-point is large red dot in upper right corner. Could not believe my eyes! Same 2" high and just a smidge to the right. Three rounds - one cloverleaf...

Final target of the morning. Target got stapled a little low, so you can still see group 4. Roughly adjusted sights, and aimed at the bulls-eye. Still a little high, and group could be a little better, but I blame the group on me. Ran out of time, though, so won't be able to verify sights until next range trip, which is going to be next week.

Very nice shooting there EM. I need to do some accuracy tests of my own instead of just making smoke and noise!

I love my Bisley Super Blackhawk in 44Mag . Was made of first batch in 1986. When I first saw them in Guns and Ammo I had to have one,and ran out to my local dealer and got it. A true deer slayer. But a house gun,its not.
The easy we make difficult, the difficult we make imposable.  Some days its so true.
