Ruger Redhawk first shots
« on: November 19, 2016, 03:48:02 PM »
Took the new Ruger Redhawk (.45 Colt/.45 ACP) to the range today...

Learned pretty quickly that I am way out of practice shooting double action revolver. however...

Started with some .45 Colt 200 grain lead round nose flat points loaded over 6 grains of Trail boss.

They didn't shoot bad, considering. All rounds were shot at 10 yards, double action, off hand.

I also shot some .45 grain 200 grain Hornady XTP over 9.0 grains of Unique. They were ok, but not great, and I was getting some of the CCI primers that weren't going off the first time they were hit. The Winchester primers were fine.

Then I switched to .45 ACP. I started with some little 165 grain lead round nose over 3.7 gr. of Clays. The had all the recoil of a .22 LR, and shot about 6 inches low and 4 inches left. I switched to some 200 grain lead semi-wadcutters that came from Acme Bullet. These were loaded with 5.0 grains of Titegroup. Now, I have tried these bullets in all my other .45 guns, loaded on .45 ACP, .45 Schofield, and .45 Colt. None of them like them. The Redhawk loved them.

Ended the shooting session checking to see if the Redhawk would shoot .45 Schofield, and I can confirm that mine has no problem with .45 Schofield.

In the target below, the six rounds at the top of the center white are the .45 ACP 200 grain semi-wadcutters. All of the hits below and to the left of those are the 165 grain plinkers. The rounds in the upper left corner are the .45 Schofields.

My wife took her Ruger flatop Blackhawk in .44 special, but didn't get much shooting done. She just got her finger out of a splint last week, and it started to swell
