Saying hi and that new Colt Walker...
« on: July 28, 2020, 11:27:06 AM »
Okay,

Greetings to all - I have been on the 1858 site for a while and now I am here too...

First got into shooting black powder with an original Remington 1858 (from 1864) when I was living in Sweden.

Now I have escaped Sweden and am back in civilization again (France) I am able to collect just about anything I want when it comes to black powder guns at least (the way it should be) and although I have only been here 6 months the collection thing seems to have become a bit of an addiction lol...

Anyway - thought I would say hi to all but also REALLY keen to find out anything I can about the 1970s ASM Colt Walker (with colt markings) that I picked up here in France today - the only pictures I have (without the gun having gotten to me yet) are the pictures from the seller's naturabuy advert - so I have removed the logo and posted the pictures below...

Also a picture of the BP handguns I have collected here so far in France :)

Welcome aboard, Johnno. Nobody here can help with your BP addiction either,  )l_ but maybe we can find some answers...

Thanks for that CaptainKirk ;)

I'm finding a bit of information online about ASM and Colt Walkers from the 1970s and 1980s and all sorts of interesting theories about authorized and unauthorized ASM Walkers (in terms of having Colt markings on them) and at the very least I think I have bought myself an interesting bit of replica BP gun making history here :)

Indeed. If you have one of the Colt stamped replicas, it's well worth hanging on to. The lawsuits shut that production down pretty quickly, so what you have is a piece of history.

In the event you might be interested in collectible replicas, there is a third sister (triplets!) to the 1858 Remington forum...the Black Powder Revolver Collector's Forum. And you thought twins were bad! ='9

Many of the same folks hang out there as well.

I'll probably end up there too then CaptainKirk lol

One of the cool things here in France is that they have their own ''ebay for weapons'' called Naturabuy - and whether its a 200 year old damascus double barrel or an 18th century musket or replica BP revolver they really do seem to have EVERYTHING here...

I have a fairly interesting Uberti 1858 from 1975 that is literally hand engraved all over by Renato Gamba (apparently a big name in custom shotguns in Italy nowadays)...

The work on it is absolutely lovely and the fit and finish - beautiful...

But yes - I have already identified so many different Walkers that pop up here for sale every week - but I am on a budget and if my (future) wife here finds out how much I have spent already she will probably kill me lol...

I have a feeling THIS Walker (just like the signature series one I have) is going to be worth hanging onto...

BTW - here are a few shots of the signature series Walker that I have...

Welcome aboard Johnno! Nice to see you migrate over here to Colt. You have an outstanding collection going there too.

Fingers will probably be along shortly, to help you with the ASM Walker. I bet Hawg will chime in to. Both are very knowledgeable.

Thanks for that ShotgunDave :)

I have a feeling this one I have just picked up today (well, bought today - might not get it until next week lol) is probably reasonably rare...

I would very much appreciate any and all feedback on that from you guys...

John.

PS From what I can tell so far France seems to be BP heaven :) My only problem next is to find somewhere I can shoot and a good reliable ongoing supply of the good black powder I want (the Swiss No. 1)

Welcome Johnno! I think you should post those photos on the respective forum threads. And thanks for posting them here, we all enjoy looking at pictures of other folk's collections!

Hi Johnno, hope you're doing all right down there. I'm still stuck up here.
By the way, how is your French coming along?

Hi Len,

Just SO GLAD to be out of Sweden (and now DIVORCED from my Swedish ex lolol)...

My French is terrible - but I never really learned to speak Swedish properly anyway - I still have to deal with a bit more stuff with Skatteverket and so on - but yes, its good to be in France - I don't have my original Remington 1858 anymore but I feel like my little collection I have here now does make up for it :)

When you get the Walker, pictures of the stampings on the underside of the barrel and frame will tell alot. What is the serial number?

Hi Fingers,

Haven't gotten that info yet - the gun has been sent today so I am guessing I'll probably have it Friday or Saturday and will be able to take some pictures of any other markings etc. then...

The seller reckons its from the 1970s and that the markings are ASM but yes, hanging out to have the gun in hand :)
