Navy Arms question
« on: August 08, 2015, 08:45:12 PM »
As I understand the U.S.company Navy Arms is or was an importer of
replica firearms.
Were they involved in having some types built to their specs, by Pietta
, Uberti and others ? Or did they just have their name stamped on regular produced
models made in Italy.
I have a 1851 Navy .36 with Navy Arms mark at top of barrel, with Pietta logo on
bottom of frame made in 1978. Are these close to original Colt design ?

Here is a link to the article on how the replica C&B revolvers industry got started.

While not specific to Pietta, it does give a good bit of information.  Pietta takes "poetic license" when they build replicas.  Most of there stuff is close to the original design but they have many fantasy models that they offer to the public.  Your 1851 sounds to be a standard 1851 and as such will be close to what was offered by the Colts factory from 1851 to 1873.
