Received today my new Pietta 1860 (QA/QC)

Hi folks,
Received today my new Pietta 1860 from Cabella's.
The internal box containing the pistol was undamaged.
The pistol and the extra cylinder were inside respective oiled polyethylene bags.
The wood to metal mating is perfect.
There is no apparent or obvious machining marks or scratches.
There is a screwdriver scratch around one of the screws in the bottom of the butt (will smooth it out with a conical stone)
I tested for timing and all 6 positions were a 100% correct and the bolt catches the cylinder right on.
The action was a little stiff, but I expected that.
It took a good effort to take out the wedge.
The barrel assembly and the cylinder came out easy.
Found a touch of corrosion on the face of the cylinder (minimal).
Found slight corrosion inside the barrel.  Nothing serious.  A bronze brush can smooth that out.
The extra cylinder was flawless.

The mainspring is a pretty easy fix, depending on how you choose to approach it.
You can replace it with a Wolff mainspring, put a little extra bend in the one you have, or taper and lighten it. Richard (ssb73q) highly recommends the Wolff springs. I have never tried them, preferring to play with what came on the gun.
Congrats...you're gonna love it. Pix are mandatory, naturally.

OK, so yesterday UPS delivered  the 1860 full size.  Since then I went back to it, and stoned the wedge for better fit as per Pettifogger instructions.
Something I failed to note yesterday is that it came with this ugly and sharp screws on the side plates, designed to hold the shoulder butstock.  I had to take them off and stone off their sharpness.  They are exactly in the path were my index finger goes.  Now I barely notice them.
Snicked out to the indoor range today in the morning and shot it for the first time for a total of 18 shots.  The first six were all over the place.  The last six tightened up to a group of 4 inches at 10 yrds.  (My Uberti Remmy does 3" at 25 yrds).  I hope it improves with use.
It shoots 4 inches high at 10 yrds, and by the way, no malfunctions at all.  I'm happy.
Cleaned it thoroughly after lunch and the UPS guy showed up with the 4" brasser.  I proceeded to test the interchangeability of parts.  Perfect fit.
The brasser is pretty.  I was thinking of disassembling it completely and store the parts for spares, but now I don't know.  I only wanted the barrel.

I like your choices Steamburn. I have both but have not changed the parts around. I like the 60 so much that I bought the 5" barrel 60 model also. Cabela's don't sale them anymore. The Brass 51 with the 5" barrel is a fun little gun just the way it was so I left it alone. I bought it from a forum member. The 60 is a good shooter, your groups will improve. You may have to find the load your gun likes.

Look what I found in my Dad's (deceased) trunk of goodies.  It was from an old Colt 1873 he gave to my eldest daughter, but living in a non open carry State now, couldn't use it (still can't but looks great and fits perfectly).

I don't usually go for modernizing bp guns but I have a Wolff mainspring in my 73 Uberti and it is nice. Intend to take it out and see if it's reliable in my navy but haven't done so yet.
