Damn Black Flies
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:21:10 AM »
Hi, after being holed up for a mild winter, I have been dying to get out back and begin shooting again for the year. The damn black flies have been a real problem this year and keep me from enjoying spring shooting. Even with a sheet of Bounce hanging off my cap, the black flies have been brutal! As soon as the black flies are done, the deer flies begin.

Don't shoot in the winter outside due to cold, don't shoot a lot in the spring and summer because of the biting flies, thank goodness for fall!!

Do you get bugged by biting flies?

Regards,
Richard

Yep, I think that anywhere there is a wooded area those things are a blasted nuisance. They are so small and yet they will draw blood! Mostly around the head and back of the neck. (jh

There has to be an inexpensive chemical somewhere that can be mixed into black powder which will both soften fouling and repel insects,it's just a question of finding it! ;)

Hi wicket, IMO that powder has already been invented, Pryodex!

Pryodex repels me, maybe it will do the same for biting flies?  ;) ;) ;)

 Richard...
I have a jar of Pyrodex P that my son bought me, but I've never fired any of it. I'll light some off in a tuna can this 4th of July and see whether it drives the mosquitoes away.
