My "Favie Navy"
« on: January 11, 2014, 11:38:13 AM »
Out of all my Colt replicas, this one is my fave. Probably because it was such a 'problem child' with the worst action I ever felt when I purchased it new. It required a LOT of internal tweaking, polishing and smoothing to make it decent, but through it all, we've 'bonded', for lack of a better term.
It's an EXCAM import, manufactured by COM with a date code of AD (1978) and chambered in .36 cal. It prefers .375 round balls on top of 18-20gr Pyrodex P and is quite well-mannered (if not anemic!). So much so that my 10 year old granddaughter shot it (quite well, I might add!) with no trouble at all!

One of the things that first caught my eye was the beautiful wood grain on the grips

Good eye on the screws! Noticed that myself but waiting for the next disassembly.

That is a nice one and the grips are purdy.

I only have two Colt 1851 Navies, but do not give them the use they deserve. I should have to forfit them over to someone that would give them the proper attention. L@J

Agreed. You want my address now or when you're ready to mail them? *6'

Actually, fit & finish ain't all that much to write home about. But, (as with motorcycles) the more love and attention you lavish on a piece of junk, the better it seems to behave and a 'bonding' of sorts occurs. Such is with this one. I wouldn't dream of getting rid of it.
